THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE ARE :
- A Grade 12 / Matric certificate or equivalent qualification, WITH a minimum of 5 years' operations experience within a car rental, automotive, or logistics environment.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or team leadership role, with the ability to manage and coordinate operations across multiple shifts.
- Proficiency in fleet management systems / software and the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- A valid South African driver's licence and able to commute to and from work without issue.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as per operational requirements, with occasional regional travel when needed.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE :
- Fleet management Plan, schedule, and track vehicle availability, allocation, and maintenance to meet rental demand and minimise downtime. Monitor and optimise fleet mix, idle days, maintenance intervals, and vehicle quality. Oversee vehicle inspections, class‑and location‑specific maintenance, and resolution of fleet exceptions.
- Depot operations Supervise day‑to‑day depot activities : vehicle staging, cleaning, re‑fuelling, paperwork accuracy, and loading / unloading for delivery / collection. Enforce safety, security, and cleanliness standards; conduct risk assessments; manage incident reporting. Manage yard layout, traffic flow, and vehicle storage to maximise space utilisation and efficiency.
- Team leadership Lead, coach, and develop a multi‑disciplinary team (dispatch, yard staff, maintenance liaison, outsourced labour and cleaners). Schedule shifts, manage attendance, performance, and disciplinary processes within policy. Foster a safety‑first culture and ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Maintenance and quality Coordinate routine servicing, inspections, and repairs with in‑house or third‑party service providers including tyres. Ensure accurate fault reporting, escalation, and timely resolution to reduce unavailability.
- Inventory and procurement Track and manage depot‑related parts, tools, and supplies; coordinate with the applicable department for spares and disposal. Data, reporting, and systems: Maintain accurate fleet and depot data in the fleet management system (e.g., inventory, mileage, status, locations, maintenance history as well as violations).
- Generate improvement plans to regional leadership compliance and risk Ensure compliance with road traffic laws, safety standards, and company policies. Manage incident, and damage claims processes as required. Support rental desk with fleet availability to meet service level targets. Resolve escalated depot‑related customer issues promptly.
