Business Development Manager

About Us:

We are a dynamic fintech startup based in Johannesburg, South Africa, committed to driving financial inclusion through innovative technology. We've built a powerful platform that combines both B2B and B2C offerings. Our solutions include a comprehensive card issuing and acquiring functions, a Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) offering with a white-label app, and specialized Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals designed to empower informal workers by enabling digital tip collection. Our mission is to use our technology to bridge the gap between traditional finance and underserved communities, creating a more inclusive financial ecosystem for everyone.

The Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Business Development Manager to join our small but ambitious team. This person will be a critical part of our growth, responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities, building strategic partnerships, and helping to navigate the complex regulatory landscape in South Africa. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the fintech ecosystem and a proven track record of success in business development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Partnerships: Identify, negotiate, and close deals with new co-brand partners, including corporations, financial institutions, and other fintechs to enchance our product offering or to utilize our solutions.
  • Operational Excellence: Source and manage relationships with key providers, including banks, payment processors, and infrastructure partners, to ensure we have the best features, pricing, and operational support.
  • Regulatory & Compliance: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and regulators (e.g., SARB, PASA) to ensure our products and services remain compliant and to help shape future regulatory discussions.
  • Market Expansion: Identify and secure new market opportunities for our POS terminals, such as security companies or other informal worker sectors, to expand our reach.
  • Sales & Growth: Drive the full sales cycle from lead generation to close, managing a pipeline of potential clients and partners.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the product, engineering, and operations teams to ensure new partnerships and projects are successfully integrated and delivered.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience: Proven experience (5+ years) in business development, sales, or partnerships within the fintech, financial services, or technology sectors in South Africa.
  • Network: An established professional network within the South African fintech and banking industries, with existing relationships with key decision-makers and regulators.
  • Skills: Exceptional negotiation, communication, and presentation skills. A self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Knowledge: A strong understanding of financial products, card issuing, BaaS, payment systems, and the local regulatory environment.
  • Character: A proactive, resilient, and resourceful individual who is passionate about building a business from the ground up.

  • Salary: R60,000.00 - R80,000.00 CTC + Incentives (Based on experience, skill & in relation to your current package)
