Job summary

A hospitality firm in Sandton is seeking an experienced Accountant to manage financial controls and ensure compliance across its operations. You will be responsible for preparing monthly financial reports, conducting year-end audits, and developing budgets in collaboration with management. The ideal candidate will have a financial degree/diploma and 2-4 years of experience in a similar role, alongside proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills. Opportunities for staff training and development are also part of this role.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-4 years experience as a financial accountant in a hospitality environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of financial controls over all aspects of the business.
  • Compile budgets, development programmes, schedules, and objectives.
  • Understand and interpret financial accounts and report anomalies to the CEO.
  • Be responsible for the year-end audit of the properties.
  • Prepare monthly financial packs for presentation to the Finance Manager.
  • Compile variance reports on all overspends on budgets.
  • Ensure adherence to financial manuals and checklists.
  • Improve skills level of all accounting staff and promote job satisfaction.

Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel
Proficiency with Sage ONE and VIP Payroll and/or Payspace
Understanding of CIMSO

Job description
Accountant with hospitality company based in Sandton

Assist in the development and maintenance of financial controls over all aspects of the units business.

Together with Finance Managers, Operations Managers and General Managers, assist in compilation of budgets, development of programmes, schedules and objectives which will enable the efficient and most profitable running of the Time Share.

Understand and interpret the financial accounts on a monthly basis of each property and to report back to the Group Chief Executive Officer on any anomalies.

Be responsible for the year-end audit of the properties.

Prepare monthly financial packs and present this to the Finance Manager.

Prepare the weekly financial reports and present this to the Financial Manager.

Compile variance report on all overspends on budgets.

Compile monthly financial report and highlight variances, discrepancies and / or changes in policy or strategy.

Ensure that all financial manuals and checklists are adhered to.

Write additional policies and procedures, as required, for the approval of the Chief Executive Officer prior to implementation.

Ensure all unit admin staff know what results are expected of them.

Improve the skills level of all accounting staff.

Promote job satisfaction.

Oversee training and development within the units accounting departments.

Personnel Function
  • Maintenance of Personnel Files, Contracts, Leave Schedules, Medical Aid, Provident Fund, etc. Procedures Updates
  • Payroll
  • Compliance to any relevant statutory requirements
  • Conduct audits of all documentation in employee files
Essential pre-requisites
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office with advanced Excel.
  • Proficiency with Sage ONE and VIP Payroll and or Payspace.
  • Understanding of CIMSO would be an advantage
