Job Description: Quality Inspector (Solar Support Structures)

We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Inspector specializing in steel support structures for the solar industry. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all structural components—including piles, rafters, purlins, and brackets—meet rigorous engineering specifications and durability standards required for utility‑scale solar projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Dimensional & Tolerance Checks: Perform precise measurements on fabricated steel components to ensure they align with technical drawings and CAD models.
• Weld Inspection: Conduct visual inspections of welds (CWI certification preferred) to identify defects such as porosity, undercut, or incomplete penetration.
• Coating & Corrosion Analysis: Verify the quality and thickness of Hot-Dip Galvanization (HDG) or other anti-corrosive coatings using magnetic gauges to ensure long‑term outdoor durability.
• Material Verification: Review Mill Test Reports (MTRs) to confirm steel grades (e.g., Q355, S355, or high‑strength alloys) meet project requirements.
• Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Coordinate or perform NDT tasks, such as Dye Penetrant or Magnetic Particle testing, on critical structural joints.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed Quality Control (QC) logs, issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and track corrective actions through to resolution.
• Assembly Testing: Oversee "first-article" fit‑up tests to ensure that mounting holes and connections align perfectly for field installation.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 3+ years of experience in metal fabrication inspection, preferably within the renewable energy or heavy structural steel sectors.
• Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret complex blue‑prints, geometric dimensioning, and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Tool Kit: Expert use of calipers, micrometers, ultrasonic thickness gauges, and coating thickness meters.
• Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with international standards such as AWS D1.1 (Structural Welding), ASTM A123 (Galvanizing), and ISO 9001.
• Physical Ability: Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and occasionally performing field inspections in outdoor solar farm conditions.

Preferred Certifications

• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or CSWIP 3.1.
• NACE or SSPC Level 1 (Coating Inspection).
• ASNT Level II in PT/MT.
