The Sr. Manager – In-plant Logistics Operations is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end execution of in-plant logistics activities, from truck park area to dock / internal WH / external WH / marketplace and manufacturing lineside locations. This role includes warehouse and packaging operations (management of returnables and packaging-related quality issues), smooth dock management, and ensuring seamless delivery of parts to manufacturing productions without impacting production targets. It ensures lean storage and movement of goods with the highest standards of safety, service, and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily logistics operations across transportation, warehousing, and distribution functions.
- Develop and implement logistics strategies to optimize service levels, reduce costs, and support business growth.
- Oversee inbound, outbound, and reverse logistics of returnable containers, ensuring timely and accurate material flow to meet takt time.
- Manage 3PL relationships, contracts, and performance metrics; conduct regular reviews and negotiations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with procurement, production, planning, and customer service to align logistics activities.
- Monitor KPIs such as on-time delivery, transportation cost per unit, inventory accuracy, and warehouse productivity.
- Ensure full compliance with regulations, safety, and environmental standards related to logistics operations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
- Implement digital tools and analytics to enhance logistics visibility, planning, and decision-making.
- Lead and develop a high-performing logistics team, including managers, analysts, and warehouse/transport supervisors.
- Support new product launches, warehouse expansions, and supply chain transformation projects.
People Management
- Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing team that meets objectives and delivers best-practice results.
- Set departmental objectives/KPIs and assess ongoing performance of direct reports.
- Monitor and ensure staff maintain accurate material schedules to get the right materials on site at the right time.
- Ensure safety, health, and environmental policies are followed to protect staff and visitors.
Financial Budget and Control
- Input and hold responsibility for material planning budgets.
Relationship Management
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to forecast, plan, and facilitate on-time materials to the production line.
- Lead internal and external relationships to ensure timely communication regarding material availability.
- Work with cross-functional teams to deliver effective solutions; liaise on product change requests and their impact on material planning and schedules.
- Support new business initiatives and projects, contributing to review meetings and change processes; ensure effective material planning implementation for changes.
- Develop and maintain supplier relationships to ensure demand is met and deliveries occur on time.
- Design, develop, and implement processes with suppliers on continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to supplier assessments and sourcing activities with the purchasing team.
- Participate in supplier meetings and negotiations to ensure material demand is met; resolve supplier concerns with the purchasing team.
- Collaborate with the purchasing team to maximize purchasing strategies.
- Demonstrate deep understanding of logistics, transportation, warehouse operations, inventory management, and people management.
- Exhibit strong leadership, strategic thinking, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Possess excellent negotiation, communication, and project management abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in logistics, distribution, or supply chain operations; at least 5 years in a managerial or senior leadership role in logistics; experience managing large teams and complex distribution networks.
