Job Purpose

To perform advanced mechanical, electrical, and arc-fault simulations for medium-voltage switchgear, supporting R&D in optimizing design, safety, and reliability. The role drives simulation-based design validation, reduces risks, and contributes to innovation in insulation systems, arc resistance, and structural performance.

Key Accountability Areas
Advanced Simulation & Analysis
  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate mechanical stresses, fatigue, and structural performance of switchgear enclosures and busbars.
  • Conduct dielectric and electric field stress simulations to optimize insulation systems and minimize partial discharge risk.
  • Simulate internal arc scenarios per IEC 62271-200 to assess pressure rise, gas dynamics, and enclosure integrity.
  • Analyze short-circuit forces acting on busbars, contacts, and supports to ensure robust design.
  • Support the design of bushings and insulators through electric field distribution and mechanical stress evaluations.

Failure Prediction & Design Optimization

  • Predict potential failure modes prior to type testing and recommend design improvements to enhance dielectric margins, structural strength, and arc withstand capability.
  • Correlate simulation data with laboratory testing to validate findings and refine models.

Collaboration & Knowledge Integration

  • Work closely with R&D teams to integrate simulation outcomes into product design and development workflows.
  • Support testing teams by providing predictions of expected performance and failure modes.
  • Document methodologies, results, and lessons learned to build a comprehensive simulation knowledge base.

Innovation & Research

  • Stay current with evolving simulation tools, methodologies, and industry best practices for switchgear analysis.
  • Contribute to innovation in insulation technologies, arc-resistant solutions, and lightweight structural designs.
  • Participate in technical publications, patents, and conference presentations to promote simulation-driven engineering excellence.
Role Accountability

HR Proficiency:

  • Ability to obtain updated soft and technical skills related to the job

Delivery:

  • Perform the planned activities to meet the operational and development targets as per delivery schedules.
  • Utilize resources effectively to achieve objectives within efficient cost and time.
  • Provide a periodic report detailing deviation and execution of planned tasks.

Problem-Solving:

  • Solve related problems that arise and escalate complex operational issues as needed.

Quality:

  • Ensure quality requirements to develop effective quality control and processes including specifications for products or processes or related activities.

Business Process Improvements:

  • Coordinate well-defined written systems, policies, procedures, and seek automation opportunities where possible.

Compliance:

  • Comply with related policy and procedures and work instructions.

Health, Safety, and Environment:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety, quality, and environmental management procedures and controls within defined area of work activity to guarantee safety, regulatory compliance, and delivery of high-quality products/services.
