As part of a long‑term managed services engagement for one of our enterprise/government customers, ZainTech is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to support and manage critical database platforms. The role is primarily focused on Microsoft SQL Server (≈60%), with additional responsibility for Oracle Databases (≈40%), ensuring service availability, performance, security, and compliance with agreed SLAs.
Key Responsibilities
Microsoft SQL Server (Primary – 60%)
- Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server environments (2016/2019/2022).
- Configure and maintain SQL Always On Availability Groups.
- Perform database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery testing.
- Monitor and tune performance using Query Store, DMVs, and indexing.
- Implement security best practices including TDE, auditing, and access controls.
- Perform patching, upgrades, and capacity planning activities.
- Provide incident resolution and root cause analysis within SLA targets.
Oracle Database (Secondary – 40%)
- Support Oracle Database environments (11g/12c/19c).
- Perform backup and recovery using RMAN.
- Support Oracle RAC environments (monitoring and operational support).
- Apply patch sets (PSU) and perform minor upgrades.
- Monitor database performance and resolve incidents.
- Manage database users, privileges, and security.
Managed Services Responsibilities
- Provide on‑site database administration support during business hours.
- Participate in ITIL‑aligned incident, problem, and change management processes.
- Support DR drills and service continuity activities.
- Prepare regular database health and performance reports.
- Coordinate with infrastructure, application, and security teams.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of experience as a Database Administrator.
- Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Practical experience supporting Oracle databases.
- Experience working in managed services or enterprise IT environments.
- Ability to work under SLA‑based operational models.
Preferred Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Database Administrator Associate
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)

Engagement Context
This role is part of a managed services contract supporting a large‑scale customer environment. The successful candidate will operate as an extension of the customer’s IT team under ZainTech’s managed services delivery model.
- Database Administration & Maintenance.
- Administer and maintain Oracle (including RAC, ASM, Data Guard) and MS SQL Server environments.
- Perform regular health checks, patching, upgrades, and backup/restore operations.
- Ensure database environments are stable, secure, and performing optimally.
- Performance Tuning & Optimization.
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and recommend optimizations.
- Apply best practices for indexing, partitioning, and SQL query optimization.
- Security & Compliance.
- Implement user access controls, encryption, and auditing in line with compliance requirements.
- Support security reviews and ensure database policy enforcement.
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery.
- Configure and maintain Oracle Data Guard, MS SQL AlwaysOn, clustering, and replication.
- Develop, test, and document DR strategies for both Oracle and SQL Server environments.
- Capacity Planning & Monitoring.
- Track and analyze database growth trends to anticipate capacity requirements.
- Use monitoring tools to proactively manage database health and performance.
- Incident & Problem Management.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database‑related incidents in a timely manner.
- Conduct root cause analysis and recommend preventive measures.
