Job description
Job Purpose / Objective

Overseas radiological safety program in conjunction with the use, handling, and storage of radioactive materials and ensure that all activities are carried out in compliance with the requirements the applicable rules and regulations to ensure the safety of the HMG's employees, patients and visitors.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
  • Advice Radiology staff on current procedures and provide guidance on relevant changes to reduce exposures and use of radioactive materials or a radiation producing device, disseminating radiation safety information.
  • Provide technical information in the interpretation of accepted standards and codes.
  • Monitor overall radiation protection for the HMG.
  • Provide radiation work as required and disposes of irradiated waste.
  • Review dosimetry reports for all monitored personnel to determine if unnecessary exposures are being received.
  • Conduct a formal review of the radiation protection program’s content and implementation. This includes an evaluation of equipment, procedures, dosimetry records, inspection findings, and incidents.
  • Accurately maintain records on all sealed source radioactive materials (inventory, transport, survey, usage etc.).
  • Facilitate and supervise the import and export of all radioactive material and associated support equipment.
  • Ensure adequate resources are available to receive and maintain all existing and planned requirements through recommendations to management in compliance with HMG procedures, JCIA, CBAHI and governmental regulations.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of the protection program through regular audit.
  • Ensure competency in the work place, to monitor, assess and respond to the training needs and requirements to develop all relevant personnel.
  • Provide written notifications of annual radiation exposures to all monitored personnel and respond to any questions regarding the exposure reports.
  • Oversee all facets of the daily operations of the Radiology unit, ensuring compliance with the HMG, KSA policies, and regulations.
  • Manage programs of critical importance; works with Director Radiology, individual principal investigators, and the radiation safety staff in the development and implementation of new proposals as well as the coordination and administration of existing projects within the radiation safety program.
  • Prepare reports and other forms of scientific or technical nature, including publishing and revising the Radiation Safety Manual and Unit SOP's as appropriate and performs an annual audit of the Radiation Safety Program.
  • Respond to radiation safety emergencies and prepares and submits required reports.
  • Oversee the use of radioactive materials at HMG facilities through the management of radioactive materials licensing, radiation laboratory survey, and radioactive waste management programs. Reviews and approves requests for radiation permits.
  • Manage the radiation safety training program to ensure that only authorized, qualified individuals work with radiation; manages the personnel dosimetry program to limit radiation exposure to radiation users and ensure compliance with HMG policies and regulatory exposure limits.
  • Ensure that JCIA and CBAHI and other legal requirement are fulfilled.
  • Ensure sufficient resources and staffing are available for the delivery of safe and quality service (e.g., space, equipment, supplies, staffing, and other resources) necessary to optimize patient care.
  • Ensure staff members participate in quality improvement and patient safety activities and receive training on quality assessment and improvement.
  • Comply with the standards and perform duties necessary to support, achieve and maintain national and international accreditation.
  • Participate in person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.
  • Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.
  • Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee’s knowledge, skills and ability.
