JOB SUMMARY :
Develop, implement and educate patient and his/her family. Raises awareness among the community through educational programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Providing health education for the patient / family and the community at large, by using verbal education, demonstration, or training sessions.
- Planning in coordination with attending physician the education of the patient and his/her family about the health matters to secure patient cooperation and high level of patient compliance.
- Provide education in coordination with the attending physicians for in ward patients covering diabetic, hypertension and sickle cell patients.
- Provide health education for outpatients referred from doctor’s clinic.
- Provide education to patients undergoing surgery refereed to them from surgery clinics to cover specific pre- post-surgical educational topics.
- Provide post natal care education to patients refereed from OBGYN clinics.
- Health care providers will request the help of the patient educators when needed.
- Pilot testing of education handouts.
- Requesting patient education material for departments when needed.
- Make sure all educational hand outs are reviewed every 3 years for content and layout and/or as indicated by concerned professionals.
- Provide personalized coordinated care, and support for patients and families.
- Treat people with dignity, compassion, and respect.
- Serves on departmental meetings.
- Keep pace with up-to-date education advancement by attending conferences and workshops.
- Participate in educational community campaigns.
- Communicate clearly and appropriately the information to the patient and their families.
- Documents patient teaching session including content and patient response in electronic patient file.
- Document assessments, interventions and plans including recommendations and goals, progress notes and discharge summaries in electronic patient file.
- Utilizes established principles of adult/pediatric learning theories and life-style counseling.
- Ensure that individualized teaching plans are prepared for all patients incorporating culture preferences, health beliefs and preferred learning styles, in conjunction with ward nurses.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of all teaching plans with nursing staff based on outcome criteria.
- Adheres to and implements the policies of ASH.
- Provides regular reports on the achievement of set objective.
- Maintains and monitors required records, reports and documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor of Science in nursing is recommended.
- Fluency in spoken and written English language.
- Proficient in Arabic language.
- Registered with Saudi Commission.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE :
At least 2 years of practice in the field of nursing.
