Role Purpose
The Lab Coordinator will establish and manage the daily operations of the DTVC prototyping labs, ensuring they are safe, well-organized, adequately supplied, and accessible to researchers, startups, and innovation teams. This role combines operations, EHS oversight, equipment coordination, and user support to create a productive and compliant prototyping environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lab Operations & Organization
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and functional lab environment.
- Set up and manage lab access, equipment booking, and user permissions.
- Develop and enforce lab usage guidelines, SOPs, and documentation.
- Basic project scoping and cost estimation skills (business planning awareness)
2. Equipment & Inventory Management
- Track, maintain, and schedule preventive upkeep for lab equipment (e.g., 3D printers, bench tools, electronics workstations).
- Maintain inventory of consumables (e.g., filaments, PCB stock, adhesives, tooling, safety supplies).
- Establish reorder triggers and procurement lists; liaise with purchasing and vendors.
- Maintain equipment logs, calibration records, and technical documentation.
3. Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Compliance
- Implement and enforce lab safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Conduct safety briefings and ensure all users complete mandatory certifications.
- Oversee safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals, resins, solvents, and electronic waste.
- Coordinate with KFUPM EHS office to ensure compliance with institutional and national safety standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits and maintain inspection records.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent hands‑on technical certification).
- 1+ years experience managing or working in a fabrication lab, makerspace, R&D workshop, or technical lab.
- Familiarity with lab equipment such as 3D printers, soldering stations, laser cutters, CNC or electronics test tools.
- Demonstrated experience implementing safety systems and protocols in technical environments.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
