Job Purpose

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government‑to‑Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force aircraft and train RSAF personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment, and weapons.

Job Accountabilities
  • Work in a highly challenging yet equally rewarding environment, playing a key role in generating aircraft for the RSAF customer. The role is therefore extremely high profile and involves interfacing with other departments and organisation such as Supply, Workshops, Quality, Product Safety, MODSAP etc.
  • Lead the resolution of complex Engineering issues and oversee team management, including responsibility for applicable rules and regulations. Activities vary day to day.
  • Manage the maintenance system testing programme for Tornado PE1 aircraft.
  • Manage the Avionics Electrical System Testing requirements of the PE1 servicing schedule, unscheduled maintenance, TCTOs and Special Inspections on the designated aircraft.
  • Supervise the Avionics Electrical Team Technicians and provide support to the RSAF away from TMSC if required.
  • Supervise outside normal trade boundaries and provide First Stage/Mandatory and Independent certification of completed tasks carried out by the Maintenance Team Technicians, including Red‑X clearance.
  • Plan and coordinate scheduled maintenance activities both on and off aircraft to meet the aircraft maintenance programme and RSAF operation requirements.
  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with approved data, standards and procedures detailed within the MOE.
  • Prioritise tasks according to the shop and aircraft schedule.
  • Monitor and provide daily updates of progress against the programme via the agreed IT‑based application and verbal briefs.
  • Highlight to the Team Leader/Maintenance Manager issues likely to impact the aircraft programme.
  • Ensure timely and accurate information is supplied when submitting AES, DDR and Technical Queries.
  • Limit overtime by effective planning and use of flexi‑time.
  • Take action to address poor performance and disciplinary matters.
  • Ensure supervised personnel have the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out tasks.
Recruitment Specification

Qualifications: A recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, or a technical apprenticeship, or suitable equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA.

  • Experience within an operational flying aircraft environment supported by formal recorded workplace applied related training or 3 years on Tornado Avionics/Electrical system testing.
  • Relevant type training (‘Q’ Course) and equipment specific training if required.
  • Leadership skills and proven ability to supervise all levels of engineering personnel.
  • The successful candidate, Saudi or Expatriate must obtain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership at the appropriate level before starting employment in KSA; SCE membership must be maintained throughout employment.
  • A sound understanding of the RSAF 4‑1‑7166 series and supporting technical publications applicable to his work area.
  • An understanding of the RSAF Operation and working practices.
  • Working knowledge of Q‑pulse, IMS and an understanding of M&CA processes.
