Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tool & Die Engineer to support and lead die casting tooling engineering, repair, and optimization in our Mexico operations. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience within a die casting Tool & Die department, with strong hands‑on capability in laser welding, squeeze pin systems, and mold flow simulation. This role is critical to tooling robustness, porosity control, and stable high-volume production.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineer, troubleshoot, and support die casting tools from launch through serial production.
- Design, implement, and optimize squeeze pin systems (placement, timing, cooling, and performance).
- Perform and support laser welding repairs and modifications on dies, cores, slides, and inserts.
- Run, interpret, and apply mold flow simulations (MAGMASOFT, Flow-3D, or equivalent) to improve gating, runner design, venting, overflows, and thermal balance.
- Identify and resolve tooling‑related issues such as porosity, flash, soldering, erosion, cracking, and premature wear.
- Support new program launches, tool trials (T0, T1, T2), and production ramp‑ups.
- Work closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to reduce downtime, scrap, and cycle time.
- Coordinate with external tool shops (local and international) for tool builds, repairs, and engineering changes.
- Review part prints and designs for DFM feasibility, tooling risk, and cost optimization.
- Maintain tooling documentation, repair histories, ECNs, and engineering reports.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on tool life, yield, and OEE.
Required Qualifications
- Proven hands‑on experience with squeeze pins and porosity control strategies.
- Working knowledge of mold flow simulation software and practical application in tooling design.
- Strong experience operating laser welding machines for die casting tool repair.
- Solid understanding of die casting tooling systems: cores, slides, lifters, ejectors, cooling circuits, vents, and vacuum systems.
- Experience with aluminum die casting.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T.
- Strong root‑cause analysis and problem‑solving skills in a production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive or Tier-1 / Tier-2 manufacturing experience.
- Familiarity with vacuum die casting, thermal management, and shot profile optimization.
- CAD experience (SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, or similar).
- Knowledge of tool steels, heat treatment, coatings, and surface treatments.
- Experience with IATF *****, PPAP, and NADCA standards.
- Ability to communicate in English (technical level preferred).
What We Offer
- Competitive salary aligned with the Mexico die‑casting market.
- Growth opportunities within a stable, expanding manufacturing operation.
- Exposure to complex, high‑volume automotive tooling programs.
- Collaborative engineering and production environment.
- Referrals increase your chances of interviewing at Northwest Die Casting USA.
