🚀 Project Overview
Join the Cloud Economics Team supporting a global R&D organization in a critical digital transformation. This role is central to integrating emerging OpenAI and AI/ML spending into the enterprise cloud cost governance framework. You will apply advanced FinOps principles and automation to standardize budget management, enhance cost visibility using tools like Datadog and Stitcher, and leverage AI-powered insights to drive accountability across engineering teams. The mission is to transform manual financial processes into a scalable, automated system that proactively guides global R&D teams toward optimal AI adoption and cloud resource efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Standardize OpenAI Budget Management: Integrate and standardize OpenAI and other AI-related cloud spending into core cost governance frameworks and reporting tools (e.g., Datadog, Stitcher) to ensure full R&D budget transparency.
- Automate Reporting and Forecasting: Design, implement, and maintain automated data pipelines to replace manual processes for cost reporting, forecasting, and alert generation.
- AI-Powered Cost Insights: Utilize Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI tools to develop and deploy contextual, automated explanations for cost fluctuations, empowering engineering teams for autonomous budget management.
- Develop AI Usage Guidelines: Create and document best practices and guidelines for AI service consumption, identifying cost-effective versus inefficient usage patterns to drive optimal adoption.
- Implement Target Tracking Systems: Partner with Observability and Cloud Economics teams to implement proof-of-concept tools for team-level budget tracking, alerting, and proactive cost management.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate closely with FinOps, Cloud, and Data teams to ensure alignment on reporting standards, forecasting methodologies, and cost governance practices.
Must-Have Skills
- FinOps Expertise & Certification: 6+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or Data Analytics, including 2+ years applying FinOps principles to cloud cost management, reporting, or governance. FinOps Certified Practitioner or Professional (mandatory).
- AWS Cost Management: Hands-on experience with AWS cost management tools (e.g., Cost Explorer, Apptio, CloudHealth, Kion, or Cloudability).
- Data Analysis & SQL: Strong SQL and data analysis skills, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets (pivot tables, lookups, automation).
- Data Pipeline/Visualization: Experience with data pipelines, warehousing, and visualization tools (e.g., Datadog, Snowflake, Stitcher).
- Cloud Infrastructure Knowledge: Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred, GCP or Snowflake experience beneficial).
- AI/ML Cost Exposure: Demonstrated exposure to AI/ML environments, including experience tracking costs for GPU usage, Sagemaker, or Vertex AI.
- Fluent English for daily communication (B2+ minimum).
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience implementing AI- or LLM-based tools for cost explanation or automation.
- Familiarity with Python for data automation or API integration.
- Experience building advanced FinOps dashboards or cost visibility frameworks.
- Background in Cloud Economics or Finance-for-Engineering environments.
Language
All interviews, documentation, and day-to-day collaboration will be conducted in English.
