Formación

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Develop new manufacturing processes, technologies and methods, improve existing manufacturing processes and capabilities, develop and document process controls, develop methods and processes for the manufacture of new products, support manufacturing improvement initiatives, including variability reduction, defect reduction, and process control improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Individual contributor, lead or team member with ownership of a part of the accomplishment within Business Unit/Area, Plant.
  • Manage moderate to broad scope, multiple variables, unclear solutions, and many stakeholders.
  • Evaluate process cost, quality, and capability alternatives, institute continuous improvements to existing manufacturing operations through process automation/semi-automation.
  • Plan, organize and execute work-streams on projects to deliver process improvement and step change capabilities.
  • Project work scope typically includes equipment selection (design, development), manufacturing installation, start-up and acceptance (Pilot, Pre-Pro Runs & EEM).
  • Role includes individual contributor and project work-stream leadership responsibilities.
  • Develop and update manufacturing process documentation (MPIs, VAs, PM/AC along with Maintenance Department).
  • Work with and facilitate alignment between manufacturing, development and upstream process experts to deliver step change and improvement of finishing technology capabilities.
  • Manage internal Corning resources to complete project deliverables.
  • Interface with external machine builders, system integrators, and suppliers to specify and deliver fully integrated process machine systems on-time, on-budget and fulfilling the technical scope when appropriate.
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges.
  • Utilize statistical tools, engineering data, and DMAIC/DESGN/Lean methodologies to develop process understanding to support robust manufacturing processes.
  • Support development and execution of roadmap and project portfolio.
  • Elaborate/propose product and process improvement qualification plans. Complete technical reports for internal publication.
  • Support problem-solving in manufacturing, including root cause identification and resolution.
  • Apply process engineering knowledge, skills and expertise from concept through delivery of process and equipment at production areas.
  • Participate in Stage Gate (RA, LA, GA) defined.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
  • Yellow Belt Training.
  • Project team membership.

Experiences

  • Advanced English level.
  • Leadership potential demonstrated on project teams responsible for implementation of new processes or equipment into manufacturing.
  • Project Management knowledge.
  • Communication skills (verbal and written), problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Ability to effectively deal with certain levels of uncertainty, ambiguity, and change.
  • Understanding and experience of Lean Manufacturing.
  • Root cause analysis experience.
