Role Overview

About the Client: The client is a senior executive and petroleum engineer operating in the upstream oil and gas sector. He manages multiple business interests while serving as President and CEO of a private family owned oil and gas company. Due to the technical nature of his work and limited availability during the day, he is seeking a highly capable technical professional to support analysis, organization, and information flow across his personal oil and gas operations.

About the Role: This is a technical support role designed for an engineer or geologist with upstream oil and gas experience. The primary focus is technical appraisal, economic analysis, and preparation of data to support investment and participation decisions in oil and gas projects. This is not a traditional virtual assistant role. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail oriented, and comfortable working independently with data, reports, and technical documentation. Light administrative responsibilities are included but are secondary to the technical scope of the role.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Evaluation and Analysis
  • Perform technical appraisal of upstream oil and gas prospects, projects, and reserves
  • Analyze well production data, decline behavior, and performance trends
  • Generate type curves or production forecasts based on available data and assumptions
  • Review subsurface data, geological reports, reservoir studies, and third party evaluations
  • Prepare technical summaries and supporting materials for executive review
  • Assist with drilling evaluations, participation analysis, and prospect screening
  • Support interpretation of engineering or geological data for investment decisions
Economic and Financial Analysis
  • Perform economic analysis of oil and gas projects, including cash flow modeling and basic valuation
  • Prepare economic scenarios and sensitivity analysis based on production, pricing, and cost assumptions
  • Support capital allocation decisions by organizing and presenting financial and technical inputs
  • Track and organize project economics, forecasts, and historical performance
  • Assist with month end review activities related to project performance and financial outcomes
Data Preparation and Documentation
  • Organize, clean, and structure technical datasets for analysis and long term reference
  • Prepare spreadsheets, reports, and documentation to support internal decision making
  • Maintain accurate records of assumptions, inputs, and methodologies used in analysis
  • Ensure technical and economic files are well documented and easily understood by third parties if needed
  • Build and maintain logical folder structures for projects, wells, and evaluations
Software and Tools
  • Utilize Excel extensively for analysis, modeling, and data organization
  • Work with oil and gas evaluation software such as PhDWin or similar tools when applicable
  • Learn and apply client specific tools, templates, and workflows
  • Adapt to different data formats and reporting standards from third parties
Information Flow and Coordination
  • Review incoming technical reports, data packages, and emails related to projects
  • Summarize key findings, risks, and opportunities for executive review
  • Organize and prioritize information while the executive is unavailable during business hours
  • Over time, assist with communication flow between the client and external partners
  • Ensure important technical or financial information does not get lost or overlooked
Administrative and Organizational Support
  • Manage and organize technical and project related email communications
  • Maintain structured file systems across all active and historical projects
  • Track deadlines, deliverables, and ongoing project activities
  • Support scheduling and coordination related to project discussions or reviews
  • Assist with general organization of business information to reduce executive workload
Qualifications & Skills
Required Qualifications
  • Degree in Engineering or Geology - Petroleum Engineering preferred; also open to Geological Engineering, Geology, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering disciplines with upstream oil and gas experience
  • Upstream oil and gas experience is required
  • Petroleum Engineering or Petroleum Geology background is strongly preferred
  • Experience with economic analysis and project evaluation in oil and gas
  • Strong ability to work with technical data, spreadsheets, and reports
  • Comfortable preparing data for executive level decision making
  • Strong written communication skills in English
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • High level of discretion and professionalism
Preferred Experience
  • Experience generating type curves or production forecasts, shale reservoir experience preferred
  • Experience working with economic modeling tools or Excel based analysis
  • Familiarity with oil and gas software tools such as PhDWin or similar platforms
  • Prior experience supporting senior leadership or project leads
  • Experience organizing complex technical documentation and datasets
