Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data, and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments, and individuals for their own use.


Role Purpose


Collaborates in maintaining and improving the controls systems of automated equipment in manufacturing, providing expertise and guidance to AA and BB bands.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical and controls engineering and equipment technical expertise in fiber optic cable manufacturing to support production, maintenance, continuous improvement, cost reduction, and productivity improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, maintenance, and research teams to troubleshoot, repair, and improve manufacturing equipment and its control systems.
  • Serve as a resource for in-depth troubleshooting of production equipment and processes.
  • Provide technical support when maintenance requirements exceed electrical associate capabilities.
  • Participate in all project phases including design, fabrication, offline integration and testing, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel, and technology transfer. Capable of executing project assignments in a team-based environment with minimal supervision.
  • Support problem-solving in manufacturing, including root cause analysis and proposing resolutions.
  • Provide on-call and weekend support as needed.
  • Monitor equipment performance as directed.
  • Propose and implement iKaizens and Safety Kaizens.
  • Validate behavior of alternative components.
  • Perform electrical and electromechanical troubleshooting.
  • Work on problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of multiple factors.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Technical degree in controls or electrical engineering or related field, or relevant curriculum training.
  • At least 4+ years of experience in a controls technician role or similar function.

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience with PLCs, HMIs, drives, and safety systems, including structured programming.
  • Knowledge of controls systems design, programming, and systems integration.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
