POSITION SUMMARY:

The CAD Team Leader will lead a growing team of mechanical design and CAD engineers based in Tijuana, Mexico, providing both technical leadership and hands‑on design support to Sunrise Medical’s global R&D organization. This role is a blend of people management and active engineering contribution—ideal for a leader who thrives on both guiding others and remaining technically engaged in design work. Reporting to the Global Engineering Services Director (based in the USA), the CAD Team Leader will oversee the delivery of high‑quality CAD and mechanical design outputs in support of new product development and sustaining engineering initiatives.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead, coach, and develop a local team of 2–3 (and growing) CAD and mechanical design engineers.
  • Perform hands‑on CAD design work—creating, modifying, and reviewing 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day team workload, priorities, and project assignments to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
  • Act as the technical point of contact between the Tijuana CAD team and global R&D groups.
  • Support new product development efforts by translating conceptual designs into production‑ready CAD data.
  • Drive consistency in design documentation, CAD standards, and PLM data management practices.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, assembly, and cost.
  • Participate directly in engineering change processes, prototype builds, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Contribute to recruiting, onboarding, and training as the Tijuana engineering capability expands.
  • Promote a collaborative, high‑performance culture centered on accountability, quality, and continuous learning.
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal); bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, CAD, or product engineering roles, with at least 2 years in a supervisory, lead, or mentorship capacity.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent).
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and structured design documentation.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes (metal, plastics, assembly).
  • Demonstrated ability to balance hands‑on design work with team leadership and project coordination.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across regional and functional boundaries.
