We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for our CODE team - Challenges & Gamefication Squad in Portugal!

CODE is an acronym for Consumer Digital Experience, focused on enhancing the experience and services that guide people in their wellbeing journey. Our goal is to make every company a wellness company, providing access to benefits and a vast partner network, focusing on end-user experience.

Our teams develop and maintain Wellhub's app, frontend and backend services, and Design System, collaborating closely with product, UX, and data teams to deliver an excellent platform experience.

The Challenges & Gamification Squad aims to make user interactions more engaging through new products and integrations with health data platforms like AppleHealth and Google Health, facilitating easy access and sharing of health data across the ecosystem.

YOUR IMPACT

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a passionate developer committed to high-quality, timely delivery. You will participate in or lead architectural decisions, suggest improvements, and collaborate with product and business stakeholders in an agile environment.

You will own critical features, review code, contribute to architecture, mentor junior developers, and be a technical reference within your team. Your data-driven approach will support product decisions, and you will strive to simplify development scopes and foster innovation.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you :

• Deliver high-quality work with insightful code reviews and reusable code practices
• Lead architectural discussions, propose improvements, and ensure design documentation is current
• Engage with product teams and stakeholders to influence business outcomes
• Ensure successful product deliveries and maintain the technical health of our systems
• Take ownership of key features, monitor KPIs, and ensure high standards of code quality
• Serve as a technical mentor, promote best practices like code review, pair programming, TDD
• Mentor less experienced developers
• Participate in incident resolution and troubleshooting in production
• Promote wellbeing and a supportive work environment, emphasizing work-life balance

Main requirements

We expect you to have the following qualifications :

• At least 5 years of web development experience, with a passion for teamwork and individual goals
• Experience designing and developing complex modern web applications
• Experience in developing RESTful web services, collaborating with front-end teams
• Proficiency in at least two programming languages such as Go, Scala, Kotlin, or Java
• Experience with SQL / NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and message brokers like Kafka, RabbitMQ, SNS
• Experience with prototypes, MVP, A/B testing, feature toggles
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, problem-solving
• Experience with monitoring, observability, KPIs
• Experience with microservices, distributed systems, AWS cloud architecture
• Strong communication skills in English and Portuguese
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively
• Self-starter, multi-tasker, adaptable to a fast-growing environment

Nice to have

• Experience with System Integrations
• Familiarity with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence)
