Overview

Software Development Engineer, Prime Video Ads – Are you interested in shaping the future of movies and television for Prime Video customers? Do you want to define the next generation of how and what Amazon customers are watching? Prime Video is one of the leading digital video services on the Internet today, and we\'re just getting started. The PV Ads team owns services that integrate with ad decision systems. We recently launched Prime Video\'s Ads offering and are continuing to launch new products and features for our customers. The team is chartered to design large scale systems to power the vod streams with ads viewed by a massive audience daily, and you will help bring customers streaming video view experience to a new level.

As an engineer in a relatively new business, you will work on challenging problems in the low latency/high throughput domain of dynamic ad insertion for Video on demand. The systems you design and build will be in the core path of video delivery to Prime Video customers worldwide. We leverage Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies including AWS CloudFront, EC2, S3, DynamoDB, Lambda, SNS, SQS and internal AWS incubator technologies. You will need to have an established background in developing customer-facing experiences, a strong technical ability, great communication skills, a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment, a high level of creativity and great analytical reasoning skills.

Responsibilities
  • Design and build large scale, low-latency services that fetch, ingest, stitch and deliver ads for Prime Video across live and on-demand streams.
  • Contribute to ad ingestion, ad stitching and integration with ad decision systems, including dynamic transcoding and ad insertions as part of video playback.
  • Develop customer-facing experiences and collaborate in a fast-paced environment to achieve results.
  • Work with AWS technologies (CloudFront, EC2, S3, DynamoDB, Lambda, SNS, SQS) and internal AWS incubator technologies.
  • Collaborate on building highly scaled, multi-threaded, 24x7 systems for ad-supported video delivery.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience (coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations)
  • Bachelor\'s degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Experience with critical, 24x7 systems and high-throughput, multi-threaded environments
  • Experience developing web services or other large-scale distributed systems delivered to customers
  • Experience building video advertising products is a plus but not required
  • Prior experience managing tier-1 services is a plus but not required

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
