Overview

The Menarini Group, a leading international pharmaceutical company, is seeking an experienced Patent Attorney to join its headquarters in Florence, Italy. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting the company’s continued growth and innovation on a global scale.

As part of the Global Legal and General Affairs Department, within Intellectual Property & Commercial Litigation, you will report directly to the Head of the Global Patent and Trademark Department. Your work will contribute directly to achieving our business objectives by ensuring that Menarini’s intellectual property remains strong, strategic, and aligned with corporate goals.

Main Activities
  • Identification of new inventions: Collaborate closely with R&D and CMC teams to identify innovative concepts and assess their patentability.
  • Global patent portfolio management: Oversee and maintain the Menarini Group’s global patent portfolio, coordinating with external patent counsel to ensure comprehensive and effective protection.
  • Strategic analysis: Conduct detailed patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, and validity evaluations to support business and R&D strategies.
  • Internal stakeholder collaboration: Provide support during due diligence processes for M&A and in-licensing projects, ensuring sound IP risk management and strategic alignment.
  • Legal advisory support: Assist the legal team in patent infringement or invalidity disputes worldwide, and offer technical input on drafting and interpreting patent-related clauses in agreements.
Job Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences discipline.
  • Qualified European Patent Attorney.
  • Minimum 4–5 years of experience in the patent profession.
  • Prior in-house experience within a pharmaceutical or life sciences company is a strong advantage.
  • Proactive and business-oriented approach with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly advise internal stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English and Italian (both written and spoken) is essential; proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
