Maintenance Field Engineer - Napoli, IT. Full time position based at Napoli with remote implications as described by the employer.
Hitachi Rail S.p.A. is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Maintenance Field Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of tasks from statistical analysis of maintenance data to in-depth train knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Assure RAM data collection in the service operation of the vehicles, defining the data records structure according to contractual requirements.
- With support from System Support Engineering, manage detailed Vehicle Management and control changes to vehicle/product configuration, ensuring traceability and maintaining the vehicle configuration status.
- Manage infrastructure-based systems (MRX, PanMon, Gotcha, etc.) to ensure notifications or maintenance alerts are received; develop methods to use this data to support condition-based maintenance. Work toward integration with SAP and Verd ict systems.
- Provide performance analysis and recommendations for improvements for internal and external stakeholders relating to engineering support IT systems.
- Support S&M Bid & Proposal by defining the budget for new bidding initiatives.
- Update spare parts lists issued by the S&M Bid & Proposal and detailed by Mobilization Engineering according to the maintenance plan and RAM analyses and service operation experience.
- Conduct Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) to define efficient and cost-effective corrective maintenance; provide feedback to Rolling Stock Design Engineering and S&M Standards & Training for standards modifications.
- Support maintenance operations in troubleshooting and management of maintenance activities; analyse technical issues and propose corrective actions per System Support Engineering guidance.
- Prepare technical specifications for depot tools; interface with suppliers, coordinate design reviews, installation, testing, and commissioning with Operations HSE support.
- Provide training to depot maintainers in collaboration with S&M Standard & Training.
- Perform failure analysis for extra-warranty scenarios (customer and supplier).
- Validate the Maintenance Manual and Telediagnostic messages.
- Report maintenance and safety defects, operational events, and failures; present RAM data to the customer.
- Ensure implementation of maintenance plans at depot and external sites, including during commissioning.
- Support Project Team activities through on-field analyses, including engineering procedures and practices development with S&M Standards & Training.
- Optimize maintenance regimes and assist Maintenance Optimization in developing optimized practices for current and future contracts.
- Perform small modifications on components and hardware related to materials or processes.
- Support S&M Operations and continuous improvement programs to meet and exceed contractual requirements; collect and manage operating data from vehicles.
- Assist S&M Procurement and S&M Operations during assessment and approval of new/second source suppliers to address engineering and quality needs.
- Support S&M Quality control in reporting component or train failures, assessing reparability and related safety risk.
Required Skills / Knowledge
- Experience performing the accountabilities described above.
- Bachelor of Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering or technical degree, preferably in electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering.
- Minimum 2 years of railway vehicles maintenance engineering experience.
- Experience in railway maintenance with focus on maintenance plan optimization, complex troubleshooting, and RAMS analysis.
- Willingness to take on large regional project challenges.
- Ability to perform vehicle system analysis and interpret contract specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and cable plans.
- Willingness to travel; typically short trips, with time away from base equating to more than 60% of the role.
Desired Skills / Knowledge
- Previous experience in Maintenance Field Engineering on railway fleets.
- Familiarity with Rail Train Subsystems such as Automatic Train Supervision, Vehicle, Telecommunication, STB, Pneumatic brake, traction converters, HVAC, etc.
- Basic knowledge of software configuration management (CM) and software programming logic.
- Basic working knowledge of statistical analysis software.
- Experience with ECM projects and homologation planning.
- Understanding of Railway Operations and Signaling principles.
- Planning and organizational skills; spare parts analysis and forecasting based on field experience.
- Design for maintainability and a willingness for continuous improvement.
Education / Qualifications
Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical Engineering or System Engineering qualifications. Associate degree or equivalent technical background.
