General Role
The Legal Department of Hermès International serves as the Group’s central hub for legal expertise. It provides comprehensive legal support to all Hermès entities involved in manufacturing and retail, across all regions worldwide.
This newly created position is dedicated to supporting transversally all the local entities of Hermès in Italy. The role will report hierarchically to the President of Hermès Italie Operations and functionally to the Legal Department for “Retail” activities at Hermès International and work in close coordination with other Group Legal Departments.
As this is a new role, we are looking for a candidate with a strong entrepreneurial mindset, capable of actively contributing to the implementation of governance frameworks, enhancing internal communication, and supporting the medium‑term evolution of legal operations.
You will provide legal support to:
- All Hermès Retail entities in Italy and in Greece, covering the commercialization and distribution of Hermès Group products;
- Group Operations & Production units based in Italy, including HITO (quality control, logistics, and compliance monitoring in manufacturing operations and production sites), HCI (shoe development and manufacturing), Cuneo (tanning activities), Louisiane (Hermès Cuirs Précieux commercial activities);
- Certain Métiers within the Group based in France, specifically in their interactions with suppliers and service providers located in Italy.
Main Responsibilities
Support the Hermès Group’s activities in Italy and the Group Legal Department in ensuring legal and compliance operations in Italy and Greece.
1. Contract and Legal Document Management
- Negotiate, draft, and review a wide range of legal documents and contracts (NDAs, letters of intent, supplier and service agreements, distribution contracts, communication and IT agreements);
- Handle lease negotiations, renewals, terminations, and construction contracts; provide legal advice on real estate matters;
- Maintain and monitor the contract database, including key renewal and expiration dates.
- Create, manage, and update contract templates and legal documentation;
- Draft and revise internal policies and procedures;
- Support Italian subsidiaries (Hermès Italy, HCI, HCP, HITO) in adapting Group documents to local requirements.
2. Consumer Protection
- Advise on, draft, and update general terms and conditions of sale, ensuring compliance with consumer protection laws and safeguarding brand integrity.
- Provide legal guidance on disputes and claims related to consumer law, including issues of parallel trade.
- Deliver targeted training sessions on consumer protection topics.
3. Compliance and Regulation
- Ensure compliance with Italian Legislative Decree 231/2001 and other applicable regional regulations.
- Implement and monitor adherence to Group compliance programs, including anti‑corruption, anti‑money laundering, economic sanctions, supply chain vigilance/CSR, antitrust, and data protection policies.
- Develop, adapt, and promote compliance policies and procedures (data protection, ethics, environmental and labor standards), aligned with Group standards, including regional training initiatives.
- Conduct legal monitoring of applicable regulations and ensure ongoing compliance (excluding tax matters).
- Conduct the necessary local training for all compliance‑related topics.
- Coordinate the local network of compliance stakeholders: internal auditors, buyers, human resources, etc.
- Manage legal aspects related to video surveillance, including compliance verification and drafting of authorization requests to be submitted to the Provincial Labor Directorate (DPL) for all affected organizational units.
4. Corporate Governance
- Assist in organizing board meetings and general assemblies.
- Prepare board and shareholder resolutions.
- Handle business license registrations and renewals.
- Certify legal documents as required.
5. General Legal Support
- Conduct legal research and regulatory analysis.
- Support operational teams in managing their business relationships, including the termination of those relationships.
- Manage disputes and litigation when applicable.
- Collaborate closely with the Intellectual Property legal counsel.
- Deliver legal and compliance training sessions.
- Participate in legal working groups within Italian professional organizations focused on retail and/or the luxury industry.
- Support the HR department on labor law issues.
- Coordinate with external counsel and provide daily legal support to internal stakeholders.
- Offer comprehensive legal assistance to Italian subsidiaries and Group legal teams as needed.
Profile
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law from a recognized university.
- Professional Experience: At least 10 years of practical legal experience acquired in law firms and/or in‑house legal departments, ideally within the retail or luxury sector.
- Legal Expertise: Broad-based legal knowledge with hands‑on experience in various areas, including consumer law, real estate, corporate and commercial law, data protection, anti‑corruption and anti‑money laundering (AML), labor law, dispute resolution, and intellectual property.
- Working Style: Ability to work independently while demonstrating a strong sense of initiative and accountability.
- Interpersonal Skills: Collaborative mindset with a pleasant, intuitive, and proactive attitude. Highly organized, rigorous, and autonomous.
- Business Acumen: Excellent analytical and communication skills, with a strong interest in business operations. A pragmatic, business‑oriented approach is essential—you are expected to act as a true business partner, not merely a support function.
- Languages: Fluent in Italian, French, and English, both written and spoken.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
