The fleet manager is responsible to perform the following:
- Ensure effective and efficient maintenance of the fleet 24 hours a day through work activities on the fleet depots to deliver clean, available, reliable and safe trains for service and operators.
- Define & implement project fleet strategy to fit with customer contractual requirements.
- Be responsible for the project fleet availability.
Customer Relation
- Define & implement project fleet strategy to fit with customer contractual requirements.
- Manage the day‑to‑day contact with the Customer regarding service provision of the Train.
- Interface with customers and interact strongly with other internal departments to ensure SQCD of the fleet.
- Support exceptional schedule changes in line with Commercial & Customer requirements.
- Communicate fleet availability/performance and the production plan to all areas of the Business.
Operation
- Prioritise work at the Depot to meet train availability requirements.
- Develop and maintain interfaces with other functional areas within the business, in particular Operations, to improve efficiency and maximise capacity.
- Set, monitor and control planned maintenance including outstanding defects, reliability and safety checks.
- Organise resources to ensure the production plan will be achieved – this includes facility, materials and labour.
- Identify and manage risk across the service, including risks that arise from the activities of our industry partners.
- Support ongoing reliability programmes through train provision.
- Schedule maintenance exams at the Depot in accordance with contract requirements to maintain consistently high fleet availability.
- Ensure sufficient time has been allocated in the plan for preventative maintenance and repairs after considering Depot capacity.
- React to train failures and infrastructure‑related issues in conjunction with the Operator to minimise impact on the Production plan.
- Liaise with the Alstom Fleet Control on all planning matters to ensure that any special/urgent requirements have been considered and agree the long‑term plan.
- Develop and maintain a forward plan identifying risks and opportunities so the availability target is consistently achieved.
- Work in conjunction with engineering to improve reliability and other contract measures within areas of control.
- Consider engineering and/or safety issues arising specially for trains movements within the depot.
Performance & Efficiency
- Optimise fleet strategy to balance operations workload and overall costs with contract and safety constraints.
- Maximise the productivity of depot plant and equipment.
Team Management
- Lead, coach and develop the team.
- Department budget management and control.
KPI
- Manage the agreed Fleet KPI’s for customers.
- Consistently achieve the availability target in line with Contractual requirements.
- Mitigate over‑maintenance cost.
- Optimise train swap.
- Optimise diagram.
Educational Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualifications in an Engineering/production discipline.
Desired Knowledge & Experience
- Experience of rail or maintenance or production industry / maintenance (minimum 5 years of experience).
- Experience of fleet operations.
- Knowledge of maintenance management information systems.
- Client facing experience.
- Vehicle operating rule processes & procedures knowledge.
- Depot operating rules and procedures knowledge.
Behavioural Competencies
- Good communication, report writing and organisational skills.
- IT skills – competent user of Personal Computer, including office packages, SAP, SES, Accomis.
- Planning & Organising skills.
