The General News Reporter is responsible for reporting and writing news related to politics and general affairs in Indonesia and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research to gather information for news stories and proactively pitch relevant, timely story ideas.
• Interview experts, witnesses, officials, and other key sources to obtain accurate, credible insights.
• Attend events, press conferences, and meetings to report on real-time developments.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with experts and stakeholders to develop a strong network of reliable sources and potential scoops.
• Write clear, engaging, and ethical news articles that follow The Jakarta Post’s editorial standards and journalistic guidelines.
• Craft compelling headlines and leads that capture readers’ attention.
• Ensure all stories are accurate, well-structured, and submitted within deadlines.
• Verify facts, cross-check data, and confirm the reliability of all information gathered.
• Work closely with editors to revise content for clarity, accuracy, grammar, and style consistency.
• Produce and edit basic multimedia elements such as photos or data visualization graphics to enhance written stories.

Requirements

• Has 2 years of experience in journalism. Candidates with experience in an English writing position will be prioritized.
• Candidates with educational backgrounds in Journalism, Communications, English, International Relations, or related fields are prioritized.
• Excellent English language skills, especially in writing. Candidates with English writing samples or portfolios will be prioritized.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Able to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Flexible to work irregular hours and available for domestic and international travel when required.
• Strong work ethic, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
