Due to increasingdemand for our Autism Service, we are now looking for committed and passionateprofessionals to join our experienced and supportive multidisciplinary team.

We areseeking a skilled and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist who is an excellent team player and wants to work ina state of the art environment within a developing service that is part of anambitious charity transforming the lives of autistic children and young people.

Main duties of the job

Under thesupervision of the Clinical Lead you will be required to:

Provide specialist psychological assessments ofchildren referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretationand integration of complex data from a variety of sources includingpsychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, ratingscales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structuredinterviews with clients, family members and others involved in the childscare.

Provide specialist knowledge and skills in theassessment and diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorders and otherneurodevelopmental diagnoses where appropriate.

Formulate and implement plans for the formalpsychological treatment and/or management of a childs problems based upon anappropriate conceptual framework of the problem in the context of the familyand wider system, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, acrossthe full range of care settings.

Develop and deliver clinical workshops to childrenand families.

About us

Caudwell Children is a Staffordshire based nationalcharity, registered since 2000, providing practical and emotional support tochildren with a disability and their families. Supporting children aged 0 to 18years. Some of our services extend toyoung people transitioning into adulthood to age 25 years. The Caudwell International Childrens Centreis the UKs first independent purpose-built facility dedicated to autism andneurodevelopmental disorders.

  • Multidisciplinary assessment and intervention.
  • Practical and emotional support for children with autism and their families.
  • Active research programme for all work undertaken.
Job responsibilities
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in anautism specialist service working primarily with 4 to 11 year olds but mayinclude children and young adults to age 25 years.
  • Toprovide specialist psychological assessments of children referred to the servicebased upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex datafrom a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychologicaltests, self-report measures, rating scales, observations and interviewswith clients, family members and others involved in the childs care.
  • Toprovide specialist knowledge and skills in the assessment and diagnosis ofautistic spectrum disorders and other neurodevelopmental disorders whereappropriate.
  • To contributeto diagnostic formulation and implement plans for psychological interventionto promote the child, young person and family to develop strategies to managechallenges arising and promote optimal personal development and child,young person and family functioning.
  • To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner,information concerning the assessment, formulation and intervention plans for children,young people and families accessing the service.
  • To contribute to service evaluation and monitoring.
  • To monitor progress and evaluate outcomes.
  • To contribute to developing and deliveringworkshops to children, young people, families and staff from other settings.

MAINDUTIES

  • Undertake assessments of children and youngpeople and their families accessing the CICC, using relevant standardisedand non-standardised assessment tools and processes.
  • Prepare reports and communicate thefindings to others as required, for example parents, children, and teamcolleagues taking account of the communication needs of others in doingso. To work as an integrated member of the MDT in doing so and coordinatewith colleagues.
  • Working with colleagues and independently;provide workshops and individual assessment and interventions.
  • Toimplement a range of interventions for children, young people, carers,families, staff from other settings and groups as required.
  • To participatein formulation, and decision making about recommendations andinterventions taking into account theoretical and therapeutic models andhighly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processesthat have shaped the child, family or group.
  • Toprovide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation toother professionals contributing directly to formulation, diagnosis andintervention planning.
  • Tocontribute to risk assessment and risk management and to provide advice toother professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and riskmanagement.
  • To workas a team member on the assessment and intervention plans in respect ofchildren, taking responsibility for initiating planning and reviewing progresswith children, their carers, referring agents and others involved in theirnetwork of care as requested.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • HCPC Registered Psychologist (Clinical, Counselling or Educational).
  • Qualifications in research methodology, staff training, supervision and/or other fields of applied psychology.
Experience
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience in the assessment and diagnosis of autism.
  • Experience of working with a variety of client groups, including children, young people, families, autism and developmental disabilities across a range that reflect a wide range of clinical severity. Work with children with autism and/or complex needs/ LD.
  • Maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive scenarios.
  • Experience of working in an MDT.
  • Experience of working with families.
  • Experience of undertaking standardised formal psychometric assessments, structured professional judgments and informal observations and interviews.
  • Formulation and implementation of interventions.
  • Experience of supervising others in the MDT.
  • Experience of working with volunteers.
  • Knowledge of CQC/OFSTED regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience of working in the Charity/Third Sector
  • Experience of working in ISO regulated organisations.
