Swansea University is pleased to support the Chinese Scholarship Council Scheme (CSC) for the 26/27 academic year for full‑time doctoral study, commencing in October 2026. Up to five CSC applications will be supported by Swansea University each including tuition fees and an annual training allowance to support immersive training experiences such as engagement with industry and international collaborative opportunities.
Each scholarship is offered for a maximum period of three years; CSC students are expected to submit their theses within this timescale.
Faculty‑based short‑listing panels are expected to sit in February 2026. Interviews are expected to take place in late February 2026. Any offers will be conditional upon applicants being successful with their application to the Chinese Scholarship Council for an October 2026 start.

With internationally recognised research centres and sustained investment in our outstanding resources and facilities, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Swansea University provides a superb environment for conducting world‑leading research at the forefront of biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science and engineering, and sport and exercise sciences. We offer projects aiming to tackle grand global challenges such as energy, health and the environment offering many interdisciplinary opportunities.
Project supervisors: Faculties will assess their supervisory capacity for individual applicants at the short‑listing stage of the recruitment process. The formal offer of a scholarship place to successful applicants is contingent on relevant supervisor capacity and experience having first been confirmed by staff internally.
English Language Requirements: If applicable – IELTS 6.5 overall (with a score of at least 5.5 in each individual component) or equivalent that is recognised by Swansea University. Details on the Swansea University English Language entry policy can be found here.
Please note that the programme requires some applicants to hold ATAS clearance; further details on ATAS scheme eligibility are available on the UK Government website. ATAS clearance is not required to be held as part of the scholarship application process. Successful award winners are provided with details as to how to apply for ATAS clearance in tandem with a scholarship course offer.
Due to funding restrictions, this scholarship is – at this time – open solely to applicants who hold Chinese National Status.
Applicants must have attained, or be expected to attain, a first‑class honours degree and/or a distinction at master’s level.
Applicants must be able to begin their course of study in October 2026. As a cohort‑based programme, deferral to an alternative enrolment window within the academic year or to another academic year is not permissible.
This scholarship covers the full cost of tuition fees.
Additional research expenses of up to £1,000 per year will also be available.
