The post will share clinical leadership of the service with the North AO consultant and the roles will cross‑cover during periods of leave. The post will also hold close links with CMHT community consultant colleagues in CALT AND CAMEO.

The post holder would be encouraged to be both a clinical and educational supervisor for trainees.

The post will incorporate a prorated amount of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) for the standard CPFT WTE split of 7.5 direct clinical care to 2.5 SPA.

To provide clinical expertise and leadership to the South Assertive Outreach team. Working clinically with those patients under the care of the team and working together with wider Cambridge and Peterborough health and social care system partners to best meet the needs of all those in our population with potential AO needs.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust is a health and social care organisation dedicated to providing high‑quality care with compassion to improve the health and wellbeing of the people we care for, as well as supporting and empowering them to lead a fulfilling life.

Our clinical teams deliver many NHS services, not only via inpatient and primary care settings, but also within the community. These services include children’s, adult and older people’s mental health, forensic and specialist mental health, learning disabilities, primary care and liaison psychiatry, substance misuse, social care, research and development.

To achieve our goal, we look to recruit high‑calibre candidates who share our vision and values. As an equal opportunities employer, we encourage applications from all sectors of the community, particularly from under‑represented groups including people with long‑term conditions and members of our ethnic minority and LGBTQ+ communities.

The post holder will provide clinical leadership to the team. He or she will provide psychiatric input and clinical leadership to the management of patients referred to the service for treatment with severe and complex psychosis. He or she will provide ongoing treatments to patients that are evidence‑based and supported by NICE guidelines maintaining a biopsychosocial approach and in the model of care as described above.

The postholder will be a trailblazer for assertive outreach in the wider Cambridge and Peterborough health care system. He or she will provide advice and expertise into the system‑wide enhanced MDT for those with potential AO needs and will provide continued leadership to the development of the wider full psychosis pathway.

The post holder is required to maintain Section 12(2) status and Approved Clinician status and have a comprehensive awareness of Mental Health, Mental Capacity and Care Act legislation. He or she will be expected to participate in Mental Health Act assessments when possible and will be the Responsible Clinician for patients on supervised community treatment orders with the team.

The post holder is expected to be committed to a multidisciplinary approach to care and actively contribute to MDT meetings and formulation meetings and work in close collaboration with team members, care coordinators, other CPFT services, third sector and statutory agencies and primary care colleagues as required for the care of community patients.

There are opportunities for both clinical work (including consultations and advice and guidance) and supporting professional activities to be conducted remotely using video consultation software and videoconferencing software.

The post holder will be expected to lead in developing and evaluating meaningful KPIs and clinical outcome measures for the service, to participate in clinical governance activities and contribute to the day‑to‑day management and to the overall service development agenda through collaboration with managerial and clinical colleagues.

On call: the post holder would be expected to join the South Consultant rota with a frequency of approximately 1 in 21. The rota is well supported by 2 tiers of trainees at higher and core level. The on calls are currently banded as category A.

The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.

This advert closes on Thursday 8 Jan 2026.
