Job description

Job Summary

As part of the NHS Wales's Strategic Mental Health Workforce Plan, Health Boards are recruiting to a number of Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (CAAP) posts. Successful applicants will be employed by an NHS Wales Health Board working within local adult or older adult psychology services. There is a single national selection process to appoint to the CAAP posts. If selected for an interview, you will be asked to provide your preference for the available roles, and this is the position you will be interviewed for.

Under the supervision of a practitioner psychologist, the role will include the practice and development of evidence-based and theory-driven assessment, formulation, intervention and evaluation skills to work with people experiencing psychological difficulties. There will also be opportunities to utilise research skills to conduct Quality Improvement projects, typically in the form of service evaluations or audits.

During the first year of employment, you will study a fully funded MSc Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology - Adult Lifespan programme at Cardiff University to acquire the CAAP competencies described by the British Psychological Society. Typically, you will work clinically three days a week and study two days a week. The educational programme is delivered approximately 50% distance learning and 50% face to face.

Main Duties of the Job

The role will include psychological assessment, short to medium term therapeutic interventions, involvement in innovative service delivery and developing psychologically informed working practice with a range of colleagues. There is also the opportunity to contribute to service evaluation audit, research and training within the service.

English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
