Job description
Glencore – 2026 Industrial Placement Programme – Environmental Products

London

Who we are

Glencore is one of the world’s largest global diversified natural resource companies, and a major producer and marketer of more than 60 commodities that advance everyday life. Through a network of assets, customers and suppliers that spans the globe, we produce, process, recycle, source, market and distribute the commodities that support decarbonisation while meeting the energy needs of today.

With over 150,000 employees and contractors and a strong footprint in over 35 countries in both established and emerging regions for natural resources, our marketing and industrial activities are supported by a global network of more than 50 offices.

The Glencore 2026 Industrial Placement Programme

Designed to accelerate your career in the commodities trading, technology, engineering, or environmental science spheres, this 12-month programme gives talented undergraduates exposure to the world-class people and careers on offer at Glencore.

This is a fast-paced placement in our London office. You will be given your own areas of responsibility and have the opportunity to contribute to the work of the business from day one.

By the end of the programme, you will have developed strong skills in your chosen function. You will also be equipped with the highest level of professionalism, personal ownership and commercial aptitude – skills that are essential to future careers at Glencore.

The Environmental Products Team

The Environmental Products Team aims to generate commercial opportunities in global carbon markets. We source and generate environmental commodities (carbon credits) in multiple jurisdictions, with a focus on regulated markets – in addition to supporting Glencore in delivering its climate obligations and targets.

The Environmental Products Placement

This placement is a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the entire life cycle of environmental products, ranging from initial opportunity assessment, due diligence, contracting, project and portfolio management and all the data and regulation analysis needed to operate in these markets.

Your day-to-day activities will vary, but key responsibilities could include:

  • Monitoring and understanding new policies and regulations;
  • Supporting the team in opportunity assessment;
  • Managing consultant relationships, negotiations and managing ongoing projects in the portfolio.
Specific requirements

The ideal candidate has the following key skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required; the ability to work with VBA, Python and other coding languages is advantageous.
  • Exceptional analytical and project management skills.
  • Able to work flexibly with a global team across multiple jurisdictions and cultures.
  • Able to work with a broad range of markets and technologies.
  • A flexible approach to problem-solving, willingness to learn and work independently.
  • Strong oral and written communication.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in:

  • Subjects relating to environmental markets and climate policies;
  • Climate change policies and regulations, carbon trading and project development in low carbon sectors (energy efficiency, methane reduction, community projects, nature based solutions, carbon capture and removal, etc).
Who we look for

We are looking for driven, talented undergraduate students who are interested in an exciting, challenging career in the commodities sector.

Working at Glencore requires commercial awareness, adaptability and resilience – and you will need to thrive in team environments as well as take initiative independently.

We look for disciplined people who can demonstrate entrepreneurial ability, thrive on logistical challenges and can provide practical solutions to complex problems using their numerical capabilities.

You must be studying a degree with a year in industry, and successful candidates need to be available to start their placements in July 2026.

Application requirements

You are required to submit a CV and covering letter. Through the use of evidence and examples, your application must demonstrate:

  • Where you have generated additional value by utilising your entrepreneurial flair, commercial innovation or initiative
  • Your resilience and determination to succeed in a commercial/competitive environment
  • Your proficiency in solving and communicating complex problems
  • Your ability to build relationships, work in and influence a team

Applications will close on December 5, 2025, and the successful candidate must have the right to work in the UK by the start of the placement.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so an earlier application may lead to an earlier decision.
