CAMHS Clinical Specialist

An opportunity has arisen to recruit a CAMHS Clinical Specialist to the Lambeth CAMHS Spring Team (Tier 2 generic) for a permanent contract.

The post holder will carry out initial assessments and offer treatment according to their clinical and professional back ground and training. It is important that the successful candidate has substantial experience of working with children and young people with complex mental health difficulties in a CAMHS setting. CBT training is essential.

Main duties of the job

Participate as a multi-disciplinary team member in the setting and reviewing of therapeutic aims, objectives, standards and strategies to provide a high standard of care to clients and their families.

Assume responsibility for own case list and case management of children, adolescents and families who are determined to be at mild to moderate risk.

Undertake all duties in line with the professional Codes of Professional Conduct, and maintain professional registration requirements for the post according to discipline/profession.

You will manage your own caseload and work within a team but will have freedom to act within the service framework and Trust operational policies.

About us

The London Borough of Lambeth has a population of 317,800 (GLA 2020). Lambeth's population is highly diverse, a characteristic visible in the breadth of ethnic and cultural traditions seen throughout the borough. It is estimated that 63% of the population describe their ethnicity as other than White British; 23% describe their ethnicity as Black (11% Black African, 7% Black Caribbean and 5% Other Black), 22% White Other and 6% as Asian.

The Annual population survey, estimates that a third of Lambeth's residents are non-UK born. Of these non-UK born, 40% are of wider European origin, 20% are of African origin; and 20% of Central or South American origin. Nearly 150 languages are spoken as the first language in the homes of Lambeth school children. Portuguese, Spanish and Somali, are the most commonly spoken other languages in Lambeth.

Lambeth has a child and youth population aged 0-20 of almost 70,000. Over 50% of this number are 0 to 9 years old.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will have responsibility for assuring the quality of clinical practice with specific reference to evidence based treatments within the team. You will hold responsibility for ensuring that all team members participate in audit, evaluation and research in evidence based treatments.

The post-holder will have a therapeutic caseload, offering therapy to children presenting with mild to moderate mental health and behavioural difficulties. You will also be working the parents/carers offering them support and guidance. You will have the ability to deliver a range of interventions for children and young people.

You will manage your own caseload and provide specialist support to families with complex presentations and to the services Band 6 CAMHS practitioners

You will be responsible for ensuring that staff, within the team achieve, positive clinical outcomes for children, young people and their families and that these are evidenced by performance indicators such as activity data, targets and quality measures.

You will work in partnership with Children's Social Care, Education, Child Health, and Adult Services and other key partners to support integrated practice and service delivery.

Person Specification
Qualification
  • First level nursing qualification/registration RMN or RSCN or HV or First level qualification in OT, social work, or equivalent with related CAMHS experience or First level qualification in art, play, drama or music therapy with related experience in the psychological aspects of caring for children and adolescent with mental health problems/needs, developmental/ learning disability problems.
  • All applicants will require professional registration with a statutory body: ACP or UKCP, the Nursing Midwifery Council, General Social care council, Health Care Professional's Council, Chartered Clinical Psychologists by BPS,
  • Training in CBT and experience of providing therapeutic intervention using these models;
  • Management and/or leadership training
  • Doctorate or Masters level qualification associated with child and adolescent mental health e.g. child psychotherapy, clinical psychology, family therapy, or equivalent.
Experience
  • Experience and ability to function as a specialist practitioner.
  • Experience of working as a case manager in child and adolescent mental health
  • Evidence of experience of clinical governance and audit and the process of clinical supervision
  • Experience of providing CAMHS interventions in group, individual and family work, multidisciplinary work.
  • Proven ability to engage therapeutically with a hard to reach client groups, using a range of therapeutic interventions.
  • Working with families in a multi-racial urban environment
  • Experience of undertaking qualitative and quantitative research methodology relevant to a CAMHS setting.
Knowledge
  • A good working knowledge of mental health disorders in children and adolescents across all ages
  • A good working knowledge of assessment of risk and management of risk factors
  • A good working knowledge of the principles underlying confidentiality and information sharing.
  • Relevant research and its application to assessment, treatment and case management of CAMH disorders.
Skills
  • Proven ability to engage therapeutically with the client group, using a range of therapeutic interventions.
  • Basic IT and data entry skills
  • Demonstrate an ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to be 'reflective' in therapeutic practice and adapt practice from this reflection
  • Proven ability to work within a changing environment
