Staff Nurse - CAMHS Mildred Creak Unit

Are you a Child, Mental Health or Learning Disabilities registered nurse looking to join a unique CAMHS Team delivering care on the Therapeutic Milieu environment?

The Mildred Creak Unit is a children's inpatient unit caring for young people aged 7 to 13 with a range of severe and complex mental health difficulties.

Our supportive team will allow you to develop your experience and knowledge of child and adolescent mental health. Working across disciplines to support our patient group with complex difficulties and supporting young people with activities of daily living, you will facilitate activities and therapeutic groups while using your expertise to create and deliver individualised care plans. As a part of the nursing team, you will get to work closely with different professionals across the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to support the young person throughout their admission.

With weekly team and monthly MDT education opportunities alongside a bespoke professional and academic development pathway which aligns with your goals, you will be part of a team which strives to provide young people with greater collaboration and empowerment in their treatment journey.

Main duties of the job

The role involves working as a member of the nursing team to provide care to the young people. You will facilitate their daily routines and attendance of the therapeutic timetable in a nurturing and supportive manner. The role includes various duties such as supporting young people to eat, helping young people with their physiotherapy programmes, providing a space for young people to talk about their feelings as well as clinical tasks such as administration of medication, nasogastric feeding, physical observations and the facilitation of therapeutic groups. The role also involves aspects of housekeeping and admin.

To work as a skilled member of the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic family centred care to the children, young people and families.

Ability to promote family centered care and establish good relationships with children, young people and their families.

To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.

To be able to take charge of the ward in the absence of senior nursing staff following achievement of required competence.

To actively engage with young people and families, in order to facilitate recovery from their individual difficulties.

Education, training and qualifications
  • NMC registered nurse in Child, Mental Health or Learning Disability branch
  • Relevant nursing qualification
