Job summary
A leading defense and aerospace company in Barrow-in-Furness is seeking a Principal Radiation Physicist. The role involves supervising analysis and experiments for system qualification, supporting design optimisation, and producing radiological safety justifications. The ideal candidate will have a relevant STEM degree and demonstrable experience with radiation transport codes. This position offers competitive salary with hybrid working arrangements.
Qualifications
- Relevant STEM degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Nuclear Engineering.
- Demonstrable experience with radiation transport codes.
- Experience in radiation safety studies and behaviours.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and conduct analysis and experiments for system qualification.
- Support design optimisation progression.
- Produce and review radiological safety justifications.

Job Title: Principal Radiation Physicist

Salary: Competitive
- Supervising and conducting analysis and experiments to support system qualification
- Supporting progression of design optimisation
- Producing and reviewing radiological safety justifications for proposed design solutions
- Direct development of in-house toolsets in support of the department goals
- Leading detailed shield design, balancing build requirements alongside system performance requirements
- Relevant STEM degree in Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Nuclear Engineering
- Demonstrable experience of radiation transport codes such as MCNP / MCBEND / Attilla
- Understanding of radiation physics
- Experience of radiation safety studies & behaviours
- Experience of radiation metrology
- Knowledge of the ALARP principle
- Experience of managing technical projects
