Are you passionate about ensuring that our ex‑British Armed Forces (Veterans) – Navy, Army and RAF servicewomen and men have excellent mental health care?

Looking for a challenging and rewarding role? You are team‑playing, initiative‑taking, persuasive and robust. As the Veterans Team Manager you will oversee and manage the two pathways within CWPT OpCourage, leading a team of approximately 14 staff including peer support workers, nurses, occupational therapists and social workers.

Joining a dedicated team of highly committed people from the Midlands OpCourage urgent, non‑urgent and treatment pathways, you will help provide the service that you would want for your own loved ones – with a spirit of fun, camaraderie and mutual trust.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine all three elements of NHS mental healthcare for our veterans.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will support the Regional Lead in providing effective frontline management to the multi‑disciplinary urgent and non‑urgent pathways within OpCourage West Midlands. In agreement with the Regional Lead, the post holder will provide leadership and partner with our contracted colleagues to ensure access to the full range of specialist assessment and interventions offered for veterans and their family members.

This community‑based service provides support to veterans in times of crisis, through both urgent and non‑urgent pathways, across a large geographical area (West Midlands).

Job Responsibilities
  • Action all referrals and facilitate triage to the urgent pathway as appropriate.
  • As Team Manager provide information to the regional lead so they may assess and challenge the service delivery on behalf of the veterans—where services are not being agreed according to the veterans’ mental health agenda across the Midlands region.
  • Work to improve and promote NHS service provision by actively engaging with the third sector providers who already have access and are providing support to veterans across the region.

Delegate aspects of the role to other team members, whilst maintaining overall responsibility for team delivery where appropriate.

Work alongside the regional manager in managing caseload and service delivery in accordance with and to contribute towards the attainment of service/Trust productivity requirements.

Assess carers and families’ needs and develop, implement and review programmes of support for carers and families.

Promote direct supervision to specified staff.

Receive and, where appropriate, participate in staff development and performance appraisals.

Recruit posts within their locality.

Support the development of professional practice in the service, ensuring the provision of clinical supervision.

Promote the mission and values of the Trust.

Support the Regional Lead in planning and managing the overall expenditure of the team of staff, supplies, equipment, etc., within the budget, determined by the Divisional Manager and in accordance with the Trust’s standing orders, standing financial instructions, budgetary rules and other financial policies.

Attend relevant regional and national meetings, contributing professional development activities to maintain up‑to‑date skills and knowledge in meeting the needs of service users.

Link and support peers across Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust and Lincolnshire Partnership Trust.

Assist the Regional Lead by monitoring performance and activity targets.

Promote equality and ease of access to services, linking in with services across the West Midlands.

Support the development and use of systems to monitor and review the Service Provision against national and local standards as a means of initiating and implementing change and ongoing improvement in services content, quality and delivery.

Support the Regional Lead on service improvement following internal case review, complaints and incidents.

Play an active role in relevant professional and service improvement groups, within the service and Trust‑wide.

Attend countywide groups for service area in health and/or social care and other agencies to support their activities and the development of integrated and inclusive provision to ensure effective pathways of care.

Advise the Regional Lead of any undue occurrence reported or witnessed or complaint received.

  • Liaise with services involved at time of crisis (e.g. police, LIDI teams or A/E staff).
  • Liaise with other OpCourage providers and third sector agencies to ensure veterans and families are linked into appropriate support.

Qualifications
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g. RMN, DipCOT)
  • Current unrestricted registration with HCPC/NMC
  • Expertise within a discipline underpinned by theory
  • Professional clinical knowledge acquired through degree/diploma
  • Evidence of post‑qualification professional development (ENB998 or equivalent)
