Job summary

A leading construction firm in Havant is seeking a Senior Buyer to effectively manage procurement for construction projects. Responsibilities include sourcing materials, negotiating with suppliers, and supporting the Procurement Team in delivering value for money. The ideal candidate will have proven procurement experience and strong skills in negotiation and data analysis. A full driving license is required, and familiarity with construction supply chains is desirable. This role contributes to sustainable procurement initiatives and technology skills in Microsoft Office are essential.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Procurement & Supply Chain Management.
  • Knowledge of the supplier market for Civil Engineering & Construction (desirable).
  • Understanding of certified management systems ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.

Responsibilities

  • Source new materials & suppliers for construction projects.
  • Negotiate rates with supplier representatives.
  • Assist in the procurement of materials, services, plant & equipment.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Senior Buyer will be responsible for supporting the effective management of the Procurement Team, supply chain and ensuring that materials required for construction projects are provided to schedule and according to projected budgets.

Responsibilities
  • Source new and/or alternative materials & suppliers.
  • Meeting with supplier representatives, negotiating rates.
  • Maintain regular communication with all internal departments, in particular Contracts and Estimating.
  • Assist the Buyers in procuring materials, services, plant & equipment from procurement schedules.
  • Extract global material order requirements from tender information.
  • Produce cost/value reports & life cycle costs for Senior Management
  • Arrange transfer of material/plant between sites/head office when necessary
  • Provide market competitive procurement solutions for the Company which demonstrate best overall value for money
  • Getting quotations for specified materials & alternatives for estimators & negotiating for the best price.
  • Assist the Procurement Manager in embedding sustainable procurement principles and practices
  • Assist with the day to day running of the Procurement Department & deputising for the Procurement Manager during their absence.
  • Attend contract handover meetings
  • Provide market competitive procurement solutions for the Company which demonstrate best overall value for money.
  • Ensuring quotes, comply with specifications and comply with delivery requirements
  • Distributing copy orders & information to sites & others.
  • Support the Procurement Manager with planning, organising & allocating work tasks
  • Assist the Procurement Manager in the training and development of team members, including apprentices.
