We meet the young people where they are andmay travel to homes, and schools and locations in the community throughoutHampshire.

As a Speech and Language Therapist with us, youll bepart of an innovative multidisciplinary team alongside Occupational Therapists,Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Teachers and Outreach Workers. Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered with the Health and Care professions Council (HCPC)
  • Specialist training in understanding the language and communication needs of young people who are autistic or have learning difficulties or SEMH needs
  • Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
  • Training in evidence-based strategies to support the language and communication of young people who are autistic or have learning difficulties or SEMH needs including developmental trauma.
  • Membership of a relevant Clinical Excellence Network (CEN).
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist, preferably in a special needs or mental health setting.
  • Experience of working with autistic children and young people
  • Experienced in the selection and administration of standardised assessment tools that identify needs of this client group and be willing to learn new assessment tools when needed
  • Experience in creating and adapting non-standardised assessment tools to facilitate the engagement of young people.
  • Experience of working with young people in a neurodivergence-informed way with an understanding of the social model of disability.
  • Experience of successful relationship building and work with children and young people whose behaviour can be challenging at times (Training will be provided by MSA)
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary approach to address the educational and therapeutic needs of young people and their families.
  • Be reflective with high expectations of achievement, behaviour, and passion for self and service improvement
  • Have good interpersonal skills and the highest professional conduct for liaising with staff, students, parents and external agencies
  • Understand how to safeguard and protect young people; reporting and responding to any child protection/safeguarding concerns in line with MSA procedures
  • Able to undertake further training when required to meet the needs of the service.
  • Have a creative and flexible approach to work
  • Have an ability to follow procedures and keep to deadlines for administrative tasks
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist colleagues when necessary
  • Awareness of standards and practice to ensure confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
  • Team working skills and the ability to work alone without supervision and within students homes
  • Flexibility to work in a range of settings including the MSA base, student homes, schools and community settings.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with our families, agencies, staff members and local education authorities
  • The ability to work with a committed multi-disciplinary team to deliver an effective service
  • The ability to problem solve when dealing with challenging situations
  • Commitment to advocacy and developing self-advocacy for young people, promoting acceptance of neurodivergence and understanding of the neurodivergent perspective.
