A leading examination board in the UK is seeking a moderator to ensure accurate marking of candidates’ coursework. Responsibilities include virtual and visiting moderation, collaborating with centres, and applying marking criteria consistently. Candidates should possess relevant teaching or assessment experience, hold a qualification related to the assessment subject, and live in the UK. This role requires attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure, making it suitable for dedicated professionals in the education field.
As a moderator, you’ll be looking at samples of candidates’ coursework to make sure that a centre’s marking is accurate and consistent. You’ll be part of a team and you’ll work closely with your teamleader.
For remote moderation, you will do a ‘virtual visit’ with a centre where you’ll download samples of coursework from a central repository and then feed back to the centre via a video call and follow up with a report to the centre.
For visiting moderation, you will contact centres to arrange a visit, visit the centre in person and follow up the visit with a report to the centre.
We’ll make sure you are fully trained so you understand the moderation process and your part in it. There will also be standardisation activities to make sure you can apply the marking criteria consistently.
The amount of work involved will vary depending on the mode of moderation and the level of the qualification.
You will generally be allocated a minimum of 5 centres initially, and should expect to moderate each centre at least twice in an academic year (once in winter/spring and again in the summer).
You don’t need to be teaching the OCR specification of your subject. We would also be interested in people with current or previous experience of working for other examination boards.
