Consultant in GUM and HIV (8PA, Fixed Term Contract for 12 months)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join a friendly and innovative team at Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust.

The department of Sexual Health and HIV provides comprehensive services across three main sites and is led by a team of eight consultants.

The services sit within the Division of Women's Children and Sexual Health/HIV; and in the directorate of Gynaecology and SH/HIV. The trust provides care to over 2500 people living with HIV and the department offers a comprehensive service including in-patient care, a joint antenatal service and clinical trial opportunities. In addition, we provide Sexual health and HIV services to the Greenwich Prison Cluster.

This fixed-term post will support the HIV and Specialist Sexual Health service at the Trafalgar Clinic at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich. It is an HIV-focused job with the opportunity for involvement in the specialist Sexual Health Service. There is no SRH commitment. The successful candidate will form part of the HIV on-call rota 1:6 with a 2% on-call supplement. We envisage that a substantive post will be developed in due course in collaboration with acute/general medicine to strengthen our links and best need the needs of our patients.

The successful candidate will require broad experience in HIV and Sexual Health, and will be encouraged and supported to develop an area of special interest. This will be an ideal post for candidates who have joint CCT in GUM/ General Internal Medicine.

Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register with CCT in Genitourinary Medicine (or be within three months of obtaining it by the interview date). Full Registration with the GMC is essential.

Essential:

• Evidence of effective participation in clinical audit and research. Understanding of clinical governance

• Diploma in HIV and GUM and DFSRH
• Full registration with GMC
• MRCP or equivalent
• CCT/CESR in Genitourinary Medicine/HIV and inclusion on specialist register or within 6 months of this requirement.

Desirable:

• Post graduate degree e.g. MD, PhD, MSc
• Educational supervisor experience/training
• LoC Med Ed or PGEA in Medical education
• LoC implant
• LoC IUC

Essential:

• Understanding of the importance of research in a clinical setting

Desirable:

• Research training Conference presentations and/or publications
• Broader understanding of research in the NHS setting
• Participation in clinical trial delivery

Essential:

• Flexible, dynamic, resilient and assertive

• Experience in GU medicine
• HIV clinical experience including in-patient care, antiretroviral therapy and care of patients with advanced disease
• Awareness of the challenges of an inner city, multicultural community

• Wide experience in Sexual and Re productive Health
• Experience of conducting/contributing to clinical trials

Essential:

• Clear, concise, and well-presented CV.
• An interest in teaching and education
• Clearly formulated career goals.
• Physically and mentally fit with satisfactory occupational health clearance

Desirable:

• Experience in the training or development of trainees in medicine
• Outside interests.

Essential:

• Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience

• Teaching skills/specific training and/or qualification
