Quantity Surveyor - Commercial Interior Fit-Out Projects

£60k - £70k Dependent on Experience

The Company

My client specialises in Commercial construction projects, predominantly Interior Fit-Out & Refurbishment, working with blue-chip clients in the public and private sectors to create workplaces and environments that enhance their clients' business processes.

The Quantity Surveyor Role

They have an exciting position available within their vibrant Commercial Team for a Quantity Surveyor. Ideally at Intermediate level with 3 to 5 years post-qualification experience. Based in Manchester, they design and build fit-out works for prestigious offices nationwide.

They are looking for an experienced individual to carry out both Pre and Post Contract duties on projects valued around £2m. While the title Project QS is used, site visits are required only as needed. The role offers 2 days a week hybrid working.

Roles & Responsibilities Include:

1. Manage all costs related to projects by performing risk, value management, and cost control.
2. Understand all project requirements, including tender submittals from the wider team.
3. Liaise closely with the project team to maintain and manage budget control throughout delivery.
4. Review potential cost savings and value engineering opportunities with the team.
5. Minimise project costs while ensuring standards and quality are met, avoiding unnecessary disputes.
6. Advise on procurement strategies and discuss them with the team.
7. Identify, analyse, and respond to commercial risks.
8. Collaborate with supply chain partners to develop cost and technical support options.
9. Assess client change requests, providing early cost estimates for informed decision-making.
10. Manage RFIs, clarifying requests and ensuring assumptions are understood.
11. Value completed work and arrange timely payments.
12. Complete fortnightly CVR reports to track project costs and highlight significant changes immediately.
13. Provide accurate sales forecasts for confirmed projects.
14. Aim to prevent contractual disputes; escalate and advise on claims if disputes occur.
15. Maintain thorough records of disputes and close out all final accounts promptly, supporting financial closeout.

The Successful Quantity Surveyor

• Deep knowledge of the design & build process, especially in commercial interior fit-out and refurbishment.
• Experience in most of the roles and responsibilities listed above.
• Degree qualified or NVQ, BTEC, or higher equivalent.
• 3 to 5 years of full-time experience in a surveying role with a reputable main or principal contractor.
• Good knowledge of Word and Excel.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
