The UK Head of IG Corporate Hybrid Trading will lead the IG Corporate Hybrid Trading effort for SMBC. This leadership role is responsible for driving revenue growth, diligently risk managing, and ensuring seamless collaboration with trading, capital markets, and strategy teams. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in expanding SMBC’s fixed income franchise, with a focus on Investment Grade trading in the Corporate Hybrids sector.

• Investment Grade Credit trading is a core offering within Fixed Income both in EMEA and globally. It is closely aligned to our lending and origination activities in SMBC BI including DCM. This role as Corporate Hybrids Trader will focus on debt securities issued by Industrial issuers, which have demand from investors predominantly in the UK and Europe with some cross‑border activity in certain products and will work closely with our Bank Capital Advisory team.
• IG Sales and Trading help distribute primary transactions for DCM and provide liquidity to our clients in secondary markets.
• Contribute positively and sustainably to the trading P&L in Global Markets Dept.
• Identify and capitalise on new business opportunities, leveraging SMBC’s global platform and lending relationships.
• Maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct, including monitoring compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies by the Credit Sales team.
• Represent SMBC at industry events, conferences, and client meetings, enhancing the bank’s profile and market presence.
• Provide leadership in product innovation and the expansion of SMBC’s credit product suite, systems and capabilities.
• Fixed Income has been identified as a key growth area for SMBC Nikko globally. Core to this franchise is Investment Grade where we originate, distribute and trade debt issued by Corporates and Financials across EMEA and the US.
• This senior level trading role will focus on expanding the Corporate Hybrids trading platform and will work closely with our Bank Capital advisory offering within DCM.
• This trader will work alongside other IG salespeople and traders to support primary and provide liquidity to our clients in secondary markets.
• This Executive Director trader will be expected to build a relationship with both internal and external clients and counterparties, improving our standing in the market whilst achieving P&L targets.
• They will be the Ambassador for Credit trading in front of the firm’s clients, internal stakeholders and industry bodies, and will play a key role promoting the department cross‑division.

• Trading Debt Securities issued by Industrial issuers denominated mostly in EUR, USD and other G10 currencies on occasion.
• Working collaboratively with fellow traders and salespeople to provide a quality service to our clients.
• Work closely with DCM originators and Syndicate to help deliver successful primary transactions.
• Build constructive and supportive relationships with relevant staff in other regions, notably Financial Traders in the US, Japan and Asia. Market your product to Salespeople in these regions.
• Execution of orders and dealing related activities in an accurate and timely manner.
• Develop and manage relationships with brokers and market makers.
• Responsibility for risk management and compliance of your assigned book; managing positions and exposure, ensuring you stay within desk limits.
• To keep self‑informed of the relevant regulatory, legal and compliance guidelines to ensure self and the overall business is operating at high levels in a compliant manner and within pre‑approved limits.
• Responsibility for risk management within mandated limits.
• Identify and capture opportunities; research and introduce new trading strategies.
• Analyse the daily Risk report to identify any possible exposure.
• Provide guidance, direction and development for more inexperienced members of the team.
• Lead and represent the department, where appropriate, in ad‑hoc projects to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the business.
• Where appropriate, this role holder will provide information to clients on SMFG products and services, including investment products.

• Relevant experience trading IG Industrials debt with proven historical P&L performance befitting of a ED level trader.
• Critical to be able to work effectively in a small and energetic team with ambitious growth targets, leading by example.
• Strategic awareness and the ability to motivate and inspire sales and trading colleagues.
• Ability to analyse highly complex financial data and large volumes of information, forecast potential impacts and derive the best possible solution.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and follow a sound and rational decision‑making process that assesses and mitigates risk.
• Strong levels of business understanding and commercial acumen with an interest in Current Affairs.
• Strong communication skills and adept at establishing professional credibility at all levels with the ability to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders in order to develop the business.
• Demonstrates a flexible approach and is results‑driven.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other team members in providing support and sharing information and knowledge.
