Job summary
A leading multi-discipline contractor in Acton is seeking an Assistant Buyer for a major rail enhancement project. This role involves assisting in procurement activities, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring service levels are met. Qualifications
- Proven experience in procurement or buying activities within transportation.
- Experience working in the rail industry or water, highways, utilities.
- Excellent communication and time-management skills.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and issue subcontract tenders and paperwork.
- Negotiate with suppliers for price, quality, and delivery.
- Process purchase requests meeting budget and quality standards.
- Work closely with colleagues, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Support meetings by preparing agendas and taking notes.
- Produce reports, spreadsheets, and presentations using MS Office.
- Handle incoming enquiries and correspondence.

Rate: £250-£300/day via umbrella
Our client is a leading multi-discipline contractor with a large presence across the transportation sector. They are recruiting an Assistant Buyer to assist procurement activities on a major rail enhancement project in Acton.
- Prepare and issue subcontract tenders and paperwork
- Negotiate with suppliers to get the best price, quality, and delivery times
- Process purchase requests from approved suppliers, making sure they meet budget and quality standards
- Work closely with colleagues, suppliers and subcontractors to make sure service levels are met
- Support meetings by preparing agendas, taking notes and sharing follow-ups
- Produce simple reports, spreadsheets, and presentations using MS Office
- Handle incoming enquiries and correspondence, drafting responses where needed
- Proven experience in procurement or buying activities within transportation.
- Ideally experience working in the rail industry, otherwise water, highways or utilities
- Excellent communication and time-management skills.
- PC literate.
