Job description

Pewsey, Upavon

Job Summary

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.

This is a Fixed-term Appointment (FTA) as an Army Nurse Summariser in Directorate Army Recruiting (DAR). Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. The reason why you are appointed for a fixed period is due the Army Top Level Budget currently reviewing the outputs they require to be delivered by the civilian workforce in its future structure. This post is being filled through fair and open competition and so the successful candidate may be offered this post on a permanent basis once the future structure of the Top Level Budget (TLB) is known and if the post endures. This post will therefore begin on your appointment and end 23months after that date. You should be aware that when your Fixed-term Appointment at MOD comes to an end, arrangements will be made in line with the FTA policy.

If you are a permanent MoD civil servant and are found successful for an advertised Fixed-term Appointment you should move into the post under a Temporary Transfer (for up to a maximum of 3 years). At the end of the posting, you will return to your previous MoD Business area. If this posting is at a higher grade, your promotion will be temporary, and you will return to your substantive grade at the end of the Temporary Transfer. If a Temporary Transfer cannot be agreed between all parties, then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA and Change of Work Location in the UK policy for further information.

If you are transferring to MoD from another government department (OGD) you should join the MoD on an inward loan. At the end of the loan, you will return to your home (OGD) department. If a loan cannot be agreed between all parties, then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA policy for further information.

The positions are advertised at 37.5 hours each per week.

  • Working with a focus to effectively and efficiently Nurse Summarise each applicants’ Digital Medical Record (DMR) in order to meet the demands of the Recruit Allocation Plan (RAP).
  • Complete nurse summarising to a standardised process, succinctly and in an easily usable format to support the delivery of Initial Medical Assessments at Basic Training (BT) and required medical intervention at Regional Reserve Units.
  • Engage in audits and reviews of the NS process, to include Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) these will be prioritised by the NS Lead.
  • Ensure that medical confidentiality is maintained at all times for all information obtained during the course of employment and beyond.
  • Provide positive, professional, accountable practice.
  • Attend all training that is required for the NS Hub and lead with any training that is within scope of practice.

  • Take part in audits and initiatives within the NS Hub, in partnership with the DAR and RPP partners.
  • Develop good working relationships and maintain effective communications with internal and external partners.
  • Work independently to meet projects reporting timelines.

This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The role currently being advertised has not been assessed as business critical and is therefore NOT open to applications from those who will require sponsorship under the points-based system. Should you apply for this role and be found to require sponsorship, your application will be rejected, and any provisional offer of employment withdrawn.

The Ministry of Defence requires all candidates who are successful at interview to declare any outside interests.
