The Role

Our Corporate & Commercial Lawyer will thrive at the intersection of law, technology, and innovation within a high-growth SaaS company. This role is a key enabler to the wider business as a legal expert supporting commercial deals, contract negotiations, compliance, general corporate matters, and minimising risk to the business.

As a strategic partner, you will leverage your creativity and curiosity to provide legal guidance and solutions that are tailored to the dynamic landscape of the SaaS industry and support Auror’s objectives. You will report to the General Counsel and work closely with our Commercial Team and our Global Trust, Safety, and Public Policy team.

While we are looking for someone to join our UK office to support its day-to-day operations, you will be part of a global function and will work on matters across New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the US as well, which may require travel from time-to-time and meetings outside standard work hours to accommodate timezones. We are a global company which partners with some of the largest retailers in the world, but we remain proud of our New Zealand roots and experience working with New Zealand high-growth companies is a plus.

Practically, this will involve:

Contracts & Commercial Support

1. Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including SaaS contracts, NDAs, and partnership deals.
2. Managing the contract lifecycle – from execution to renewals and terminations – while ensuring compliance and minimizing risk.
3. Translating complex legal concepts into practical, customer-focused advice, especially around product functionality, privacy obligations, and platform use.
4. Partnering closely with commercial, customer, and leadership teams to align legal guidance with business priorities.

Technology & Privacy

1. Advising on privacy, data protection, and tech-related legal issues across global markets (NZ, AU, US, UK/EU, Canada).
2. Embedding privacy-by-design principles into products and processes.
3. Supporting responses to customer privacy/security queries and compliance reviews.

General Legal Support

1. Handling disputes and resolution strategies, corporate governance, and compliance.
2. Advising on employment agreements and supporting People Experience (PX) initiatives.
3. Negotiating third-party vendor agreements and managing freedom of information requests.
4. Educating teams across the business on legal topics to build confidence and understanding.

This role reports to Brendon Prebble, General Counsel

I was born and raised in NZ, but have spent most of my working life abroad in the US and UK working with companies across every stage of the growth life cycle. I first came across Auror in my previous role, and jumped at the opportunity to join a high-growth NZ company operating at scale globally with all of the challenges that presents. Outside of Auror, you will usually find me playing golf (badly) or pretending to be a builder (very badly).

About you

1. You have experience drafting and negotiating technology and commercial agreements (expertise in privacy and intellectual property would be an advantage).
2. You have strong experience across a range of general corporate matters, either in-house or in private practice advising technology companies. Experience in M&A transactions is a plus.
3. You have experience in crafting and adapting contract negotiation strategies to achieve business objectives.
4. You have a strong appreciation of the priorities, opportunities and challenges of a high-growth SaaS company, acting as a business partner to the wider company (not just a legal service provider).
5. You have a strong ability to convey and translate product functionality, nuances, and requirements to customers, confidently leading conversations with a customer-centric approach.
6. You have a strong understanding of privacy fundamentals, including privacy legislation across NZ, Australia, US, UK and Canada including familiarity with GDPR principles.
7. You have a keen interest in operating at the intersection of new emerging technologies and law, particularly privacy developments.
8. You are a self-starter, comfortable working independently and proactively, but with demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and make sound judgments under tight deadlines.
9. You prioritise attention to detail and produce high-quality work that accurately reflects Auror’s legal and commercial position, requiring minimal rework by internal stakeholders.
10. You have experience in providing advice on new product features and functionality.
11. You enjoy legal research and writing thought-leadership articles about new legal developments and applications.
12. You enjoy educating and coaching others to support building legal and commercial acumen across teams.
13. You hold a current practising certificate (either UK or NZ is preferred).

1. Competitive salary range: Depending on your level of experience, between £93,000 - 130,000 (IC4 or IC5).
