A little more about your role …

WSP are looking for an enthusiastic and diligent Electrical Engineer to join the Maritime team based in the UK.

As part of the team, you will have an opportunity to complement the wide experience of a highly knowledgeable and dynamic team of Maritime experts based in the UK and across the globe.

As one of the team members you will be contributing to the technical delivery of a wide range of UK based and international projects for a variety of clients, ranging from local authorities to private clients and international terminal operators. You will have the opportunity to provide input to all stages of project maturity, including Feasibility Studies, Concept Designs, FEED Studies, Value Engineering and Detailed Design.

You will be working under the supervision of senior team members but you should be able to prepare electrical deliverables such as Single Line Diagrams, cable calculations, cable block diagrams, plant layouts, cable routing, cable containment design, switchgear configurations philosophies and produce bill of materials/quantities for electrical systems in accordance with international standards, and client requirements with minimum guidance.

You will be required to draft electrical specifications and review contractor design submissions and assess them against Employers Requirements, specifications, national and international standards, codes and practice and good working practices.

You will work with equipment vendors on developing designs of equipment packages and participating in technical evaluations of vendor designs. You will work with owners, operators and investors to assess the condition of electrical assets and their designs for their capability, risk, opportunity and need for intervention. Additionally, you will also have an opportunity to work closely with the clients and be able to develop project management skills.

Your role will be hybrid based; however, you will have an opportunity to visit sites around the UK to support some of our projects. Also, our overseas projects often provide opportunities to travel, and you may be required to travel for short periods of time.

We'd love to hear from you if you:
  1. Degree or similar qualification in relevant Engineering subject supported with significant post graduate experience in electrical design and or operation, maintenance and testing.
  2. Attainment of or working towards professional registration with the Engineering Council UK (ECUK) at Chartered (CEng) level leading to Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
  3. Chartered Engineer or working towards IEng/CEng and a member of relevant Engineering Institute.
  4. The ability and desire to assume a lead role in the development of Electrical deliverables and or the assessment of assets under construction or in operation.
  5. Knowledge of design construction and operation of power and energy projects.
  6. Have experience in working on Maritime projects for example: container terminals, liquid and dry bulk terminals, offshore wind, ro-ro etc.
  7. Possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and civil engineering skills.
  8. Are able to check and produce quality technical outputs and solutions.
  9. Are capable of coordinating and working effectively with other disciplines and team members.
  10. Are competent in using MS office-based software.
  11. Can communicate clearly in English, both orally and in writing.
  12. Are personable, approachable, enthusiastic, and empathetic.
  13. Hold a full UK Driving Licence.
  14. Knowledge and practical experience of one or more of the following design tools:
    • AutoCAD
    • Revit
    • AMTECH ProDesign
    • ETAP
    • PSCAD
    • PowerFactory (DIgSILENT)
    • Dialux
    • Relux
