Job Title - AHP Practice Education Facilitator

Directorate: Allied Health Professions (AHP)

Salary - Band 7

Hours per week - 18.75 Fixed Term Contract or Secondment

We are looking for a Practice Educator Facilitator (PEF) to provide maternity leave cover and continue to ensure provision of high-quality clinical placements for all pre-registration Allied Health Professions (AHPs) within Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be working as part of the AHP Practice Education Team to support managers, AHP practice educators, students and apprentices to experience excellent practice education within mental health and learning disability settings across all areas of Trust. They will also work closely Health Education providers and explore new and innovative ways of expanding AHP placement potential, including digital, leadership and research opportunities.

We are looking for a colleague who has an interest in education in practice, developing others and has previous mentoring/educator skills and experience.

This is an exciting and rarely available opportunity, and the recruited colleague will be supported to develop a greater understanding of University based education; lead on embedding equality, diversity and inclusion into the core of practice education across SPFT; standards for supervision and assessment.

The post holder will be supported to develop their own educator, leadership and communication skills.

• Recognised AHP professional qualification
• Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered
• Evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development
• Completion of practice educators training
• Robust evidence of own personal development, and that of influencing and supporting a learning environment within a team
• Experience in change management
• Audit and report writing skills
• Mental health clinical practice/management experience
• Experience as mentor/ practice educator in a clinical setting
• Able to demonstrate excellent teaching/ training skills
• Awareness of current issues in allied health professions education and training
• Introduction of change into the work environment
• Knowledge of professional and wider NHS matters and potential issues, current and future relevant to mental health and learning disabilities education, training and development
• Working knowledge of the HCPC Standards for Learning in Practice
• Working knowledge of the AHP Educator Career Framework (NHS & Council of Deans, 2023) and other relevant NHSE guidance for AHP Education
• Ability to identify solutions to problems and implement them effectively
• Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information with barriers to understanding
• Demonstrate knowledge of management of people and resources
• Ability to collaborate in a multi-professional context
• Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication and organisational skills
• Plan implement and evaluate teaching and training
• Can support practice educators in practice - directly, virtually and via written communications
• Able to work independently on self-directed tasks as determined by needs of the team
• Able to assist and lead on (as required) assessment clinical practice of learners
• Teach and lead on reflective practice in one to one, small and large groups settings
• Can provide constructive feedback to enhance clinical learning and safe practice
• Ability to facilitate groups with diverse learning styles, experience and training needs, able to analyse and adjust to complex group and individual dynamics
• Complex facts or situation, requiring analysis interpretation and comparison of a range of options
• Demonstrate up to date expertise in relation to clinical practice
• Demonstrate the use of evidence-based practice
• Demonstrate understanding of current NHS legislation and policies
• Ability to discuss and debate clinical practice issues
• Demonstrate an understanding of audit and clinical governance processes
• Demonstrate knowledge of professional regulatory guidelines
• Plan and organise complex activities or programmes, requiring formulation and adjustment
• Ability to input and influence on the design of educational and development programmes
• Evidence of an ability to organise meetings which include external partners, for example senior HEI staff
• Able to identify areas for practice development, including Placement Learning Opportunities
• Supports others with plans and schedules on how agreed budgets will be used
• Microsoft Suite - Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
• Confident with teaching others how to use basic Trust IT equipment
• Handle audio-visual equipment and training materials prepare environments for training. Sits at computer for extended periods
• Regularly able to travel across the Trust geographical area and to HEI partners situated outside the Trust boundaries, as required
• Sustained concentration. Frequent long periods of concentration on administration activities
• Work pattern and demands of role fluctuate through year. Some unpredictable learner and educator matters requiring quick responsive action
• Occasional distressing or emotional circumstances with occasional or frequent highly distressing circumstances
• Deal with, and support, potential distressing circumstances relating to learners and educators i.e. post Untoward Incident
• Hybrid role - working from Trust HQ, with some travel to Trust service locations and external venues. Some working from home when appropriate to service need
• Demonstrate support for the values and beliefs of the Care Groups and those of the Trust, as reflected in the Trust's Better By Experience Commitments
• Demonstrate an understanding of the practices of Human Rights in the delivery of this role
• Ability to travel across sites
• Punctual and flexible across hours of work when required
• Evidence of attainment or working towards a masters level qualification
• Teaching qualification or working towards attaining a teaching qualification
• Project management
• Lived experience of mental health issues
• Experience of designing and delivering educational programmes, activities and projects
• Evidence of undertaking an active mentoring or coaching role
