As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play an essential role in delivering high‑quality care through food, preparing and serving nutritious, well‑balanced meals for residents, many of whom have specific dietary needs.
Responsibilities
- Assist with meal preparation under the direction of the Chef or Cook.
- Serve meals with warmth and respect in a timely and friendly manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, including equipment and surfaces.
- Monitor and record food storage temperatures (fridges, freezers, etc.).
- Support stock rotation and ensure ingredients are stored properly.
- Show new team members how to safely use kitchen equipment.
- Wash up and keep the kitchen spotless, even after a busy lunch rush.
- Demonstrate patience, respect, and genuine kindness in all interactions with residents and co‑workers.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Some kitchen experience and a real passion for helping others.
- NVQ2 in Catering or Food Preparation, or willingness to work towards it.
- Strong organisational skills, keen attention to detail, and ability to follow recipes and record information accurately.
- Ability to recognise signs of possible abuse, harm or neglect and know how to act.
- Completed safeguarding training appropriate to the role, plus additional training as required.
- Willingness to seek advice and report concerns, including escalation if action is not taken.
- Comfortable with technology or open to learning.
