Our Development team specialises in providing sustainable development infrastructure solutions from planning through to full implementation. We provide advice to private and public sector clients on planning and design issues relating to Highways, Public Realm, Sewerage, SUDS, Building Drainage, Earthworks, Flood Protection and Utilities Coordination/Diversion on Residential, Retail, Industrial, Commercial, Educational and Healthcare Developments in the UK.

The team also works closely with other WSP disciplines on high profile major multi-disciplinary projects.

All staff are encouraged and assisted to progress their training towards Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the ICE, IHT, CIWEM or equivalent Engineering organisations; and staff will benefit from internal and external training opportunities provided.

A little more about your role…

The management of utilities risk is of great importance to our Clients. Issues such as capacity shortages, encroachment on ageing assets and commercial opportunities are increasingly requiring a particular skill set to manage. If you have a background in utilities coordination and would like to work for one of the world’s premier Consulting Engineering Firms, WSP is currently recruiting for a Principal level Utilities Infrastructure Engineer.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

1. Working out of the WSP Leeds office, which is located in the heart of the city, with easy access to the nearby train station, food outlets and open green spaces.
2. Working within multidisciplinary teams to maintain existing and develop new client relationships – winning work.
3. Working closely with a diverse range of clients to help deliver complex and demanding schemes.
4. Successfully bidding, winning and delivering schemes on budget.
5. Ensuring a high standard of work and information is provided to clients.
6. Providing an experienced senior point of contact for clients on key projects.
7. Mentoring team members.
8. Making a demonstrable contribution to the company’s turnover and profitability.
9. Quality service and professional reputation.
10. Commercially aware and efficient at problem solving.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

1. Chartered Engineer or open/working towards Chartered Engineer status.
2. Civil Engineering Degree, or similar equivalent qualification.
3. Experience delivering utility connections, diversions and utility infrastructure strategies for small, medium and large schemes in the UK.
4. Understanding of requirements of Electricity, Gas, Water, and Telecommunications networks owners.
5. Experience of Multi-utility / iDNO (independent Distribution Network Operators) / ICP (Independent Connection Provider) offerings would be beneficial.
6. Ability to develop utility demand calculations based on the needs of a Development.
7. Project experience of large multi-disciplinary infrastructure schemes.
8. Proven ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and effectively organise your time between them.
9. Working knowledge of BIM standards and protocols.
10. Excellent communication skills are important to engage effectively with co-professionals and deliver high quality reports.
11. AutoCAD / Civils 3D experience, or similar software, with 2D drawing and 3D modelling capability.
12. Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
13. Technical and commercial understanding of the industry.
14. Have an ability to communicate technical detail effectively and networking skills.
15. Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC).
