Job description

Working with young people aged between 11yrs and 19 years, in a youth club setting. You will encourage them to participate in their club and in planning and running activities with them. Building relationships by being a good listener and understanding what the young people want from the activities, as well as listening to their issues and sign‑posting them onto other services as and when required. You will be expected to support the work under the direction of the Youth Club Manager. Your duties could include sport, dance, participation in art, music, drama, discussions, and cooking with young people, as well as off‑site activities such as day trips and residentials.

This successful candidate for this post will be expected to work across all areas of the youth club including the learning needs provision.

Skills
  1. Be enthusiastic and be able to make and maintain effective relationships with young people.
  2. Have experience of working with young people from age 11-25 years, be enthusiastic and able to make and maintain effective relationships.
  3. Have excellent communication skills and be able to engage effectively with young people, staff, and stakeholders in a restorative way.
  4. Possess the ability to converse at ease with service users.
  5. Be friendly, approachable, have a sense of humour, and plenty of patience.
  6. Be able to work within a team, including interaction with volunteers and other staff, as this is very much a hands‑on job.
  7. Have an understanding of anti‑discriminatory practice is essential and the empowerment of young people is essential.
  8. Be open‑minded, but recognize and challenge inappropriateness in a young person's behaviour or language.
  9. Be flexible in your hours of work as you will need availability to work in the evenings and occasional weekends as well as working from different sites.
