About The Team

School of Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences – the first new School of Veterinary Medicine in Scotland for 150 years. Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) has developed an innovative new School of Veterinary Medicine & Biosciences. We have a clear ambition to ‘promote the resilience of our graduates to sustainably support the animals and rural communities at the heart of Scotland’s Natural Economy’.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking to appoint a part‑time Veterinary Lecturer (Clinical Facilitator) to work one day per week. We are seeking highly motivated Veterinary Surgeons to share clinical experience, help students integrate learning gained in the foundation years of Veterinary Medicine and to understand its clinical relevance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsibility and supervision for a specified small group of students.
  • Creation of comprehensive case studies to facilitate student understanding of the importance of basic sciences to the management of clinical scenarios.
  • Facilitate discussion of clinical scenarios in a first opinion (primary care setting) context.
Learning, Teaching and Scholarship
  • Design, develop and deliver a range of teaching materials across a subject area.
  • Active participation in student tutorial and educational support.
  • Contribute as required to skills training.
  • Involvement in the development of subject based pedagogy, where appropriate and applying knowledge derived from clinical practice and/or scholarship to teaching.
  • Involvement in continuing professional development in relation to teaching and, where appropriate, related professional practices.
  • Aid in the delivery and assessment of practical (OSCE) assessments.
Clinical
  • Adhere to best practice and be a guardian of compliance with the Veterinary Surgeons Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain an awareness of emerging and novel clinical approaches, in order to benefit SRUC’s undergraduate and partnership networks.
Minimum Qualifications

This post would suit a clinically experienced, RCVS registered veterinary surgeon (Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 11 or equivalent).
