A London-based tech blog is seeking a full-time full stack web developer to enhance their digital presence with diverse and exciting projects. You will work on customer-facing web applications and web services, with a technology stack that includes Ruby, Scala, and more. The role offers a competitive salary and benefits, including remote work options for UK residents.
To improve our public and client facing web presence we’re looking to bring on a full time, full stack web developer to work on several self-contained and mostly green field projects.
The projects are diverse, and range from traditional click-to-buy customer facing web apps, to the specification of web services interfacing to our machine cluster for the presentation of aggregate data for client reporting. For our public facing presence our primary channel is Facebook and so many of the apps will be presented as Facebook apps. We have access to several other APIs which we would let you loose on, and so there will be asynchronous aspects to these apps we would expect you to be comfortable implementing and monitoring.
We’re a pretty polyglot development shop (our codebase is made up of about 70% Ruby, 15% Scala, 10% Java and 5% Erlang). We’ve historically favoured Ruby (with either Sinatra or Rails) for web development, however we’re open to ideas about the most appropriate technology stack for future projects, and would ensure that you had enough autonomy to choose the best tools for the job.
We’re flexible about qualifications, but solid computer science knowledge and plenty of experience building web apps is expected. We deploy on Ubuntu to a mixture of Amazon AWS and our own hardware and share sysadmin duties amongst ourselves, so comfort with the Linux command line and standard shell commands is a big plus. Our new years’ resolution is to be better about testing, and so it would be great if you have good habits and are prepared to champion them.
In return we can offer a competitive salary (dependent on experience), and great benefits (including 10% time), as well as a fun, friendly and relaxed working environment. We’re based in London – a stone’s throw from Old St – but can accommodate remote working if you are a UK resident.
