Job description

Transport Supervisor – Stockport

We need an experienced, organised HGV Transport Planner to manage and optimise the daily planning and operations of a busy transport operation. The role focuses on efficient route planning, driver scheduling, compliance with transport legislation, and delivering a reliable, cost‑effective transport service.

Working hours: Monday to Thursday, 11:00am to 9:00pm; Friday, 9:00am to 7:00pm. (Shift work or flexible hours may be required to support operations.)

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and schedule daily and weekly HGV routes to maximise efficiency and vehicle utilisation.
  • Allocate drivers and vehicles in line with operational requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with driver hours, Working Time Directive, and tachograph regulations.
  • Monitor vehicle movements and respond to delays, breakdowns, or last‑minute changes.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and internal teams.
  • Optimise routes to reduce fuel costs, mileage, and emissions.
  • Ensure all transport activities comply with health, safety, and legal requirements.
  • Maintain accurate transport records, reports, and KPIs.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the transport operation.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Proven experience in an HGV transport planning or logistics role.
  • Good working knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance standards.
  • Experience planning multi‑drop or long‑haul HGV operations.
  • CPC qualification (National or International) is desirable.
